|
|
I just moved and have been told that I have to change the PIN. I've had the landlord look at it and he can't figure it out. I've had some of my friends try as well. No dice though.
Anyone know how to change the PIN?
Thanks so much! |

What brand is it? No instructions, website on the back? Mine has a website on it in small print on the bottom, and you can find a manual in English there.

Thanks for the website. I can't see the brand info. It's actually installed upside down, go figure. There are instructions, I've tried translating them and they don't work. My landlord couldn't make heads or tails of it either, but he's older. He called his son and his son dictated instructions, but that didn't work. |

If you can't figure it out, why not buy a new lock? They don't cost that much. |

Thanks. I think I'm just going to give up and keep the lock. One of us should be home all the time, there are two others old fashioned locks that we can lock the door with from the inside. But I'm pretty sure it should be safe. this is Korea after all |

I knew people who didn't change their locks and came home to find their place robbed. Burglar walked right through the front door because the people were too cheap to change the locks, and confident that nothing would happen. The police said they were fools for not changing the locks. |

I tried the manual, that didn't work. It's a New Zen lock. Still can't figure it out. |

If the landlord can't figure it out, and the manual isn't helping, then ask the landlord to buy a new lock. It's his responsibility, especially since you just moved in.
This is a basic maintenance problem and the lock isn't working properly through no fault of your own. If he gets cute and doesn't want to pay, tell him you will buy it and when you move out you will be taking the lock with you since after all; it will be yours. Or tell him you will be deducting the cost from next months rent.
This technique has worked for me twice, show him you mean business.
You shouldn't be faced with leaving your apartment unlocked, you just moved in there! He's being a "slumlord" by not taking care of something that basic. |

All the number pad type door locks I've had have had a similar process to change the door code.
Look for a 'pinhole' on the inside door portion of the lock, and use a toothpick or a Q-tip (rip off the fuzzy stuff first), and insert it into the pinhole. Sometimes you have to hold the toothpick for a few seconds until you hear a beep.
Then, on the outside portion of the lock on the number pad, enter a new pin code (you may or may not have to push 'enter' afterward) and then it should be set. |

I'm rather surprised by complete absence of information regarding a electronic door lock brand 'New Zen,' let alone its manufacturer, be that may Korean or Chinese or Taiwanese. Not even a trace. (There are bidet, fridge, computer power supply, LCD monitor, and erectile dysfunction medicine trademarked 'New Zen,' but no door lock. wow.) |
