|
|
WOW! I new ECC contracts were bad but I never though any school could offer such crappy contracts and find people to sign them.
An overview of the best bits:
1. No regular schedule of work hours can be guaranteed to employee.
Huh?
2. Employee agrees to attend meetings and training workshops scheduled by employer.
How many, How long???
3. The minimum teaching requirement shall be 144 periods(1 period=40 minutes) per month. Monday through Saturday are teaching days.
Payed by the minute AND work Saturdays.
4. The employer will have the authority to require employee to perform any classroom duties in excess of the minimum teaching requirement.
Forced overtime.
5. Employee agrees to be present at the place of employment at least one and a half hours before the commencement of each day's allocated teaching schedule.
1 1/2 hours!! Every day.
6. Salary will commence from the first day of teaching.
No mention of the unpaid training before you start.
BUT WAIT!!!! THE BEST ONE.
7. Employee will not be paid for these holidays and vacation days.
Unpaid public holidays and vaciations!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
I'm still laughing over that one. Yes this is really written in a contact that I was sent. |

| This moron reminds you that you can just edit the post and most people would not have seen it. |

And this moron - who usually avoids and discourages spelling/grammar criticisms - points out that "payed" isn't a word, either.
Maybe this is the "special" ECC contract. |

oooops...
Two mistakes in one post... I never make mistakes. Ha Ha.
But to be really anal about it, payed is a word... Just the wrong one.
Payed = something to do with sealing a boat with tar... or something along those lines. |

Seems ECC has change a lot since my days there.
Technically you don't get paid for the holidays. So that is probably why they put in there...because foreigners like you would get totally pissed at why you weren't getting "extra" cash for the holidays.
The best things of ECC for me were: always getting paid on time, monthly dinners on the school and the kids. |

I used to work for an ECC for 2 years. The contract was the first one I signed and while it wasn't the best it was by far better than any others I've seen recently or before.
It's a franchise so you take your chances. In my case I lucked out and got a decent place. The problem is extending or renewing a contract. You will not get anywhere near what you can get by changing hogwans.
Most of the ECC's that I know of also require a 600,000 deposit, which is not exactly a desireable clause.
In hindsight, I can't believe I signed either but I did get a decent run, which was what I was looking for at the time.

| I agree with Mr. Pink that the ECC contracts totally changed. Sounds like this may be a school that is not part of the chains that head office in jongno runs. My contract was nothing like that when I worked there. |

| I actually heard ECC was good, but NOT the franchises, those franchises are hit/miss. The ones run through the parent company are good, the contract that is on there website dislcaims everything that was in the post. But we will have to wait and see i guess... |

Just had a second recruiter try and offer me this same position in two weeks. Looks like no one wants to sign.
The poor director is sitting in his office thinking why doesnt anyone want to work here? I have a good position: 6 days a week, 144 classes a month, no paid holidays, forced overtime and shared apartment. |

Does any school otu there pay for the holidays off?? (curiousity) if you read YBM ECC post on the job centre you will see that the ones run through the company want you to apply directly to the head office bypassing the need for a recruiter. The Franchises are run independently so that is why you would get a contract like that.. |
