I've just been offered a job at Yushin High School in the Woncheon-dong area of Suwon. It's right next to Ajou University apparently. I was wondering, has anyone been to this area? If so, would you recommend living there?

I've read through most of the Suwon posts and the City seems to have mixed reviews, so if you want to give your opinion on Suwon in general, that would be beneficial too...

Longshot, but does anyone know anything about the school? I can't find much info on it from googling. It's a public school apparently (hopefully).

Thanks.

It is not a bad area to work or live in.

You have easy access (#4-1 bus (among many others)) to Yeongtong or Namun. There are also direct buses to Seoul (#3000).

It is about a 5k taxi to Ingae-dong, Yeongtong (lots of other foreigners) or Namun (south gate of the old walled city).

It is NOT that close to Ajou-dae (too far to walk for an evening out) but close enough by cab (3k won).

The Woncheon resort park is there (if you are from the states, think small carnival (games and rides)). Lots of young Korean couples go there for dates when the weather is nice.

Suwon is not a bad city to live and work in. It is not like Seoul but it does have everything you need to be comfortable (from bars to nightclubs to live theater and cultural activities) if you are willing to take the time to look.

Woncheon amusment area is long gone!! It was a cute place once. Now big apartments are going up there. Maybe in 2 years it will be completed. You also have the airport limo bus at the Castle Hotel with is nice. Tons of bus service and college students.

Thanks both, much appreciated.

Anyone else got any input? Also, anyone who is in Suwon already and wants to get in touch, feel free! Would be great to know who is already living in the area before I get there.

I live in Suwon, but closer to the World Cup Stadium. I can't say i know much about the area you're going to, but I enjoy living in Suwon.

Thanks Drew, I like hearing positive things about Suwon!

I just looked up Woncheon Amusement Park, it looked so kitsch! Would have loved to have gotten some photos of it.

Does anyone know whether the building works will affect day-to-day living in the area? I don't particularly want to live there if it's pretty much a construction site?

I live in another part of Suwon. Woncheon is not a good part of Suwon. It is older and more run down than better parts of Suwon like Ingye-dong and Yongtong. It's a rather boring ugly place. There are few foreigners that live there.

Also, it's not close to Ajou University, so your recruiter lied to you about that.

Honestly I'm not sure why anyone would want to live there.

Apparently the school is right next to Ajou University, I got Woncheon from the address of the University? Is the area next to the University any better than the place that you're referring to?

That would be great! Yes, I think it is a technical school. My email is [email protected] if you could ask him to get in touch? Or if you could pm his email? Thank you.

I worked for Yushin! I thought it was great. As long as you put in decent effort, most of the teachers will like you. If you have any questions about the school feel free to PM me!

Chris, I got your email and emailed back, but I did it from my phone and it seems to have deleted my message instead of sending. If you haven't received an email from me do you mind resending?

Triban - I'm both cool and hot and would love to meet up with you. I'll be at Suwon station next Friday at 3pm, waiting for you. I'll be the dark-haired girl that looks Korean.
