I heard somewhere (possibly on Dave's?) that a Korean iPhone can be jailbroken and put on an AT&T or Verizon plan in the US. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Will a Korean iPhone work on a US network? |

Yes it can be unlocked and used on a U.S network. KT will have to do the unlocking. Jailbreaking isn't necessary to use the phone on the U.S network. KT will usually only unlock the phone if the contract has been paid up. |

Thanks for the quick response, Drew10! I'm thinking about getting an iPhone 4 from one of those KT global stores, but I wanted to see if I could use it in the US after I'm done teaching in Korea (which won't be for at least another 15 months, but still). Of course I will be sure to pay my bill before I leave. |

afaik, before the contract expires, you can ask them to unlock it. |

You can ask them before the phone is paid off, but they may not do it until the phone is paid up 100%. You can work out a deal with them to make payments on the balance if you don't want to pay a lump sum.
*Edit*
I'm sure if you set up payments they will have no problem unlocking it. The process can take up to 3 days to get it unlocked, but from what I was told, is quite simple to set it up back in the U.S |
