| If you really want to do a gift (I only did it upon re-signing after a visit home), do something regional. Where are you from? I'm from New England and did Yankee Candles (I know they can be bought everywhere, but...) |

Some local candy? That's a better idea than showing up at school with a bottle of booze and shot glasses. |

Never said anything about supplying the booze.
And the only person I bought candies was a pretty girl. I'm betting that your P will be closer to Attilla the Hun than Suzie Q. But if buying a fancy box of chocolates for your boss floats your boat more power to you! |

| When I came I brought gifts for my principal, vice principal, and co-teacher. A bottle of my family's homemade black cherry wine for the principle and a jar each of local honey for my vp and ct. They loved it and I feel it gave a strong first impression to the extent that I'm glad I did it. All in all it cost me well under $10 and a bit of packing space. |

You know before coming to Korea I labored over these forums and others, trying to get some ideas for some gifts. One of my ideas was littel bottle of whiskey. I spent a lot of time on it and guess what happened? My principal refused the gift, which then I felt weird giving anyone gifts. I have the whole story here:

Mountain oysters are always a nice gift to bring. They will be well recieved and surely set you off with a nice topic of conversation for the year.
Personally I think you should try to bring raw mountain oysters, but that might not be possible for you. Just make sure that they are as fresh as possible.

Try and see if anyone has worked at the place you are working at and they can give you the scoop on the principal, or maybe your recruiter knows them. It sounds like your boss is male...
If they drink- Hancock Reserve Bourbon, Gold Label, Remy Martin 1758, Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish. Don't overdo it, $50 a bottle is fine.
When you renew you should come back with something a cut above- Hennessey XO, Royal Salut, Highland Park 18 Year, about $100 a bottle.
If they don't drink, I dunno, an autographed Shin Soo Choo baseball or Jersey? A Beatles Record. Designer neckties.
If your boss is a woman, maybe Lancome Moisturizer/Sunscreen, or a Crabtree gift set or Designer bath towels.
Korea is very brand-conscious... |
