Does anyone have any luck ( or bad luck) with roof top gardens.
There is space on top of my apartment.
What have you grown, or tried to grow?
Where did you get the seeds, or sprouts?
Was it a big pain that ended up failing due to the torrential rains, heat and humidity? |

Where do you live? If you're in certain neighbourhoods in Seoul, there's a chance you can find a community garden to join. I know Yangjae in Gangnam, for example, is riddled with gardens despite how downtowney it looks. I lived in Daechidong last year and I was able to bike down to Yangjae super quickly to garden.
This year I'm in Yongsan, so I'm hoping to set up a rooftop garden as well. I was thinking of having Gmarket deliver dirt since I wouldn't want to lug it up myself, getting seeds from Garak Market since it's cheaper and has a wide variety. As for building the thing, though... I don't know where to get the big bins that the locals use, or how much to concentrate on helping them drain well in the heavy rains.
If you're in the neighbourhood and you're building a garden, we could help each other out! Split on material! If ever I figure out how to find it.. |

Oh, forgot to mention. Greens grow exceedingly well! Root veg like carrots and beets are a little more finicky, and I had zero luck with tomatoes. I was up to my ears in leafy greens and herbs, though! |

I grew tomatoes, basil, cilantro, and oregano. I moved the herbs into my aprtment when the weather got cold but they didn't last long. I had more tomatoes than I could eat. |

Lille,
I would but I am in Daegu.
Hot sticky Daegu.
I am going to try for something on the roof top. Does anyone know where to get seeds here in daegu?
Anyone know anything about wildflowers on the rooftop as well? |

wildflowers will do great, if they are in an environment similar to their natural habitat. wildflowers from the southwestern united states probably wouldn't do so well. on the other hand, ones from the northeaster united states would probably thrive.
i imported seeds, mostly from italy, and have a contract with a farmer to grow them in quantity for me. i have a pretty large variety of things. if you tell me what kinds of seeds you are looking for and in what quantity, we can work something out.
the seeds i have include different varietals of tomatoes and peppers. i also have basil, parsley and oregano seeds. if you are looking for something specific, let me know, i have other things that i might grow in future years. |

i'll have to check the list, but i'm pretty sure there are crosby's egytian beet seeds and china rose radish seeds. there could be other root vegetable seeds that i don't remember off hand. i think there might be some carrot seeds too. i'll be visiting the farm tuesday and will check the store room. i'll grab a small quantity of any root vegetable seeds and list what they are on here. |

i correctly remembered about the china rose radish seeds and the crosby's egyptian beet seeds. in addition to those, i have early scarlet globe radish seeds, danvers half long carrot seeds and parisian market carrot seeds. though not true root vegetables (because they are bulbs), i do have texas early grano onion seeds and bianca di lucca onion seeds.
let me know if you are interested in any of these and how many you would want.
if anyone else is looking for vegetable or flower seeds, let me know and i can check and see what i have. |

So how do you even get to the roof, if it's always locked? I know I know, ask the security office.
But is there any particular reason why a building's roof would be locked from its residents? I miss my old building where I could go up anytime, no hassles. |

Has anyone tried growing things in their apartment? I can't seem to find a grow light (I'm in Jinju).
Maybe with enough air flow and tlc it could be feasible? |
