Hourly with no housing, severance, or medical insurance. Ends up being considerably higher than base salary. F4 visa, is this common practice these days?

How is Seongbuk? Is it fun for a single male?

Hourly pay and independent contractor pay schemes are fairly common and legal and many large chain schools utilize these plans. Some teachers seem to come out better, others lose out - depends on the individual circumstances and performance of each teacher.

However, both are being challenged in court. Depending on the outcome of the upcoming court case, the future legality of independent and hourly compensation schemes could change. Either one or both could be upheld as proper, limited, restricted, or banned altogether. We'll see.

I expect some restriction and tightening but not a total prohibition of these types of schemes.

I say agree to the scheme and then take them for the extras when you finish. If you work for someone and you are paid a salary or per hour, you are an employee and no contract can get around this fact.
