I am there now. I am staying at Sabang. Sabang is certainly not a place for families, but the hotels and dive shops are affordable. There are a few good beaches nearby.
Everywhere good in PI is a hassle to get there.
The weasther sucks here too, depending on your definition of suck. It hasn't gone over 20 degrees. |

Boholdiver- I've read several of your posts. Any updated info on Bohol? I'll be traveling there the last two weeks of April (yes during holy week) and we will be staying about 10 minutes from Alona Beach. Any tips, advice, etc? |

No updates. I was there at Xmas. I didnt like it as much the 2nd time. Too much cavalier boat parking. It is hard to swim anywhere and boats don't regard swimmers at all.
White Beach (though not Sabang) in Puerto Galera is a way better beach as far as sand and water. There are a lot more hawkers and the Bohol people are nicer, but White Beach is cheaper and cheaper to get there. |

Puerto Galera is above the typhoon belt, however. Bohol is not. You might want to check typical weather reports for that time of year.
Puerto Galera is one of the cheapest places to learn diving. Possibly in the world. We stayed in Sabang for that reason and caught a jeepney/tricycle combo to get to White Beach. Big Lalaguna just off of Sabang is nice too.

Bohol Diver- Thanks for the heads up on weather. We checked and it says it usually doesn't get the monsoon rains there until mid May/June.
We are keeping our fingers crossed.
Any insight on good websites to go to for real information about Bohol and not just traps for foreigners.
Appreciate it. |

I didn't see anything in Bohol that I would consider a trap. If you get ripped off, it will be for very little.
Just shop around with the touts for any tours you take and haggle for anything else.

Lonely Planet Philippines says Bohol offers little for the independent traveler who is not into diving. I hope the place takes off but... |

Well we are going there because the bf loves diving. I'm hoping to find something else to occupy my time while he is doing that. |

There is a land tour and a sea tour. Each one could take a day and you could see a lot of stuff. I recommend the sea tour over the land tour if you want to do just one.
If you are a backpacker, you can stay in Nuts Huts (google it) and there are some jungle trails there. There's a zipline, for one thing. I know someone who did it and enjoyed it.
Swimming is great, the food is decent, there's live music every night.
You can always go off the beaten track and see other parts of the island. It's pretty big.
If they mean, in other words, there are no whores, then they're right. Not many whores there, so not good for single men I guess. Quality writing by LP writers.

Hi BoholDiver
I am planning to get my diving license there this July, in Puerto Galera. Do you recommend Big Apple service?
