So I finally found a way to play Age of Conan on Korean servers and it's absolutely free.
You do need to have an alien card and a phone or credit card, or bank account with your name on it.
Alternatively, korean friend's ID/phone will work too.
google translate plugin for firefox may help you understand what's going on on the webpage. don't use chrome though, it's not supported.
This is how it's done step by step:
1- go to http://www.ageofconan.com/
2- click on Korean flag (I hope I don't have to explain what it looks like)
3- right under Conan's head, there's a login screen. click on Register button
(아이디/ 비번찾기 회원가입)
4- you'll be taken to the screen with three faces, click on the gentlemen on the right, the one that looks like his name is Hans or Rudolph.
5- agree to terms (check the boxes) and click on the left button
6- first box is name, second box is your alien card number
7- you'll be given a choice on how to confirm identity. Bank, phone or credit card with your name on it will work. There are pictures under each, so choose the one you want. I did it with the phone.
enter your details and you'll get an email or an sms with confirmation number which has to be entered in the last box
8- if everything goes well, you should have an account to login and download the game now
9- you have to use a downloader provided in order to get the game. |

This works?
Surprising. My alien card number has not worked for ANYTHING regarding game signup here in Korea.
Most annoyingly, the inability to sign up for a Korean Playstation Network account so I can use my DLC codes I get with games here. |

Yes it does. Many of the major Korean game portals, as well as some of the minor ones, take foreign IDs to create accounts. If you want a full list and sign-up guides, follow the WWW at the bottom of my message, I've got a blog that details various sites and games.
Age of Conan is hosted by Pmang, Lord of the Rings Online is also hosted by one of the sites, and even Hellgate London is still running here. The kicker is all the MMORPGs will be in Korean generally. They often have custom clients so you usually can't even port the language files over. This makes it tough to play anything you're not very familiar with unless you've got really great korean skills.
So I've stuck mostly to shooters and other action games that don't require a lot of reading on my site. |

AoC is pretty straightforward in terms of gameplay.
I've been playing US trial version so I've already familiarized myself with most of the Barbarian gameplay, all I have to do is look up occasional word I don't know.
It's more of an action game than MMO anyway, with combos and crazy 1 vs 4 fights that you'll be doing.
Since it's free though, I do recommend trying it.
There are three servers, 2 PVP and 1 PVE, so if anyone joins in, let me know. |
