I think the reason there are so many posts about the FBI CBC is because the whole drawn out process is causing a lot of headaches for a lot of people.
I'm waiting for my apostilled copy of my FBI CBC to arrive and so I can't get a job without it. I FEDexed it to the US State Dept in the middle of Feb.
Thats OK. I wanted to take some time off. I have some other interests I'd like to pursue here in Korea for a few months, I've decided. However, the six months expiration on my current FBI CBC will expire July 2nd. I'm looking at job ads in case something "great" comes up, but very well may not look hard for one and hence may not get one before July 2nd.
Therefore, considering the possibility that I won't get a job before July 2nd, that means I pretty much have to apply for the FBI CBC again now in order to make sure that I have another valid, unexpired CBC available to me on July 3rd when the current one (that I still haven't even received yet) expires.
Sorry to be so long-winded. This has been a pretty frustrating process to have to go through yet again. What I would like to know is whether I will have to go get finger-printed again or if the FBI keeps those prints so that one can apply for a new CBC without submitting a fresh set of prints.
Getting the fingerprints at a Korean police station was clearly the easiest, least expensive (free) part of the whole process. Nevertheless, if I don't have to do that it would at least be one little thing I can dispense with for the next go round. The the next go round will start no later than next week.
Cheers. |

Can't accurately answer your query about the FBI but I suspect NOT. (you will need to send a new set of prints with a new application).
The good news is that your CRC is good for 6 months from date of issue (not date of application). This means that as long as it is 6 months old (or less) when it lands on the desk at immigration, you are good. |

Thanks for the reply. Obviously, I know I'll have to ask the FBI but just thought I'd check in here first.
Regarding the issuance date, 3 months after the issuance date (or probably a couple of weeks less to be safe), one must start the whole 3-month process over again to avoid the possibility of being without a job or a apostilled CBC 6 months out.
If they would make this a once a year process that would be sane and humane. As it is they keep requiring people who haven't lived in their home country for years to prove every 6 months that they still don't have a criminal record there. Some would call this flog the waygukkin scapegoating and a violation of human rights. But I come from the country whose government brought Guantanamo Bay (and much other nastiness) to the world, so I sincerely do not have a holier-than-thou attitude about this. |
