I've had the same phone since 2004. It works. It has a camera but I've never used it.
So, I see everyone buying iphone's paying $800 or something. My question is why? Do you get a model-girlfriend with it? What's the point? I'd still be calling the same people.
Why do you people upgrade to new phones? Well you get my view.
(Oh, and I still use MS Office 2003) |
Because it's cheaper than buying a phone, gps, digital camera, and mp3 player. And that's not even getting into web browsing and a hundred other things it can do. |
Jesus! They're only 199 dollars here. Plus if you have an early upgrade, Verizon gives you an additional 50 dollars off! Korean telecoms are raping all of you. The full retail price of the iphone is less than 800 bucks! |
The 3G sells for fifty bucks now. |

Does anyone know the costs associated with owning an iPhone 4 in Korea (i.e. phone price, monthly payment for unlimited data, etc.)?
I'm moving to Korea soon and I was looking to get it as soon there as soon as I get there . |
Yup, it's $0 to buy with a 2-year contract. You pay approx. 75,000 a month for unlimited data transfer (3G). Not a bad deal, I must say.
P.S. To some other posters: I have to say that I find the anti-apple people more pompous than the people who like apple. People who buy iPhones simply see a top-of-the-line product that is easy to use, and simply makes life better. Instead of carrying around a camera, MP3 player, cell phone, book collection, portable DVD player, compass, map, portable game player, laptop, alarm clock, korean-english dictionary, radio, micro-cassette voice recorder, and notepad, I simply carry one item with me which fits right into my left pocket. No need to carry around a bag to stuff all those items in.
They make life better, the same way a microwave, car, fork, jacket, or shoes make life better. A smart-phone is not a cellular phone. It's a mini-computer which can do so very very much.
So, I say, go ahead, keep your 2004 cell phone. I don't care. Just don't talk all condescendingly when people choose to upgrade to a better, more technologically advanced product. The old "Apple brand products are expensive" argument doesn't do it for me either, as people tend to spend money however they damn well want to, some people consider $800 lots, to others it is nothing. I'll buy what I damn well want to, and really don't give a damn if some jerk out there wants to critique it. It's capitalism, baby, and the products which are well designed and priced at something someone wants to pay for it will sell. |

These devices are practical but they do create a need rather than fulfill a need.
They can be practical but typically they are just more crap a person buys to fill some hole. Thats the way a consumer driven market works: create needs that customers will then seek to fill.
The apps are sometimes useful, a lot of times idiotic and sometimes borderline retarded. The amusing thing with apps is watching people discuss them and become addicted to them. Why do something for yourself when an app can do it for you!
It would be pretty funny to watch people go into app deprived shock if the network(s) they use went down for a few days....
Heck then they could not social network to tell all their friends they like just had like the superest coffee in the like world.
Still, for the working professionals in many fields, these devices can be useful. |

Dad brough the new I-4 home yesterday ; AT and T didn't give him the option of any data plan..7
75,000 a month is alot too ( even with unlimited)..What carrier?
As far as the actual phone goes, well:
1. The screen/phone is REALLY huge ( he had to turn it over sideways' just to access certain apps); so it seems like it would be hard to just hold the phone upright and text when you're out somewhere.
2. No Alert Reminders ( just a regular 12-month calender)on the do-to-list.
3. Camara takes blurry pictures.
4. Expensive ( even with a contract)..
5. You can view NASDEQ updates hourly ( +)
After he gets home and I can look at the phone a more; I'll then add some more stuff to the list.

He was trying to take pictures under very low light conditions. The iphone 4 probably takes the best pictures of any smartphone.
