How much better is an i5 over a quad core? Any other parts you would change on the system?

My only issue with the build suggested is the graphics card. It's too weak. GTS450 is not for a "gaming rig", hence the "GTS." If you are actually building a rig with the primary intention of playing games on it, you need to spend more on the GPU. At this point in time I would not go lower than a GTX460 / HD6850.

Even with my 460 overclocked to hell, the newest games will still make it cry. The screen resolution you'll be playing at is also an important factor.

the point is he set a 500,000 won budget. your adding another 100k onto it.

Depends which i5 and which quadcore and what you plan to do with the computer.

Here's a good article on current CPU's from my fav techie site. You can see how the i5's rank with newer Sandy Bridge chips and older C2D chips.

So I think I will raise my pricepoint to 750 but lower price for good specs is always better.

If anyone can provide links to good deals on various hardware please PM me or post it in th thread, I have trouble navigating the Korean sites. Also, this is the first time I am building a PC so bear with me.

Here is what I am thinking:

CPU: Phenom II x4 955/i5 2500k
GPU: Radeon HD 5770/Geforce GTX460
RAM: 2x 4GB Ripsaw DDR3 1333
HD: Samsung 1TB Spinpoint
MOBO: ?
PSU: ?
CASE: ?

Any help and lowest Korean website price links will be greatly appreciated.

I've used two FSP power supplies in the past (one still) and they have been excellent. FSP are a huge Chinese electronics specializing in PSU's so they know what they're doing. They actually make PSU's for a lot of the more famous American brands who then simply re-badge them.
Here's their current range.

Mobo.....I prefer Gigabyte. The dual-bios on Gigabyte boards has saved my ass a few times.
Remember, the mobo's for the Intel Sandy Bridge 2500k are called P67 or H67 and they have the LGA-1156 socket.
Here's what's available on Danawa
http://www.danawa.com/product/list.html?defSite=PC&cate1=861&cate2=875 You just need to narrow the search by checking the P67 and H67 boxes.

What about if I go with the Phenom II x4 955? And how much of a performance difference do you think I will experience between the two?

The recalled boards should be gone from the shelves by now......the fixed versions have now been released......you can tell by the 'B3' suffix if it's a board made with the corrected chipset.

Have a pc question. Got my new pc in the post today and it came without an os as i expected. I had ubuntu 10.10 on a usb ready to go. Halfway through booting it, when i snag the power cord accidentally. Start it up again and all i get is a black screen. Same result after a few more tries.

I figure the hard drive is screwed some how, I took it out and replaced it with an old one. what should i do with it? is there an easy way to fix it?
