Ok so today I went and got a hepatitis A and B vaccine ( the first dose ) and a prescription for Xanax for the flight.

Will the RX for Xanax be a problem on my medical check? I just want to sleep on the flight.

Anybody have experience with this?

You shouldn't have a problem. If it's only one off, it's out of your system in 3-5 days. If you take it regularly, it's out of your system in 3-5 days. It is legal in Korea, so you really shouldn't have a problem. If something comes up (which it likely won't) you take the test again a few days later.

I was assuming you take the test basically the day after you arrive. I'm working for GEPIK, is that not correct?

Not entirely sure if GEPIK is different, but generally you have 60 days to get your medical check.

The medical (drug) test consists of a blood and urine test. You dont do the test until after you arrive in korea. You have up to 90 days after you arrive to complete the health testing and submit the results to immigration to receive your Alien Registration Card.

Your school will likely want it done in the first week or two after you arrive, but they may not push you to do it that early. You will be expected to do the test when your schools asks you to so dont try to stall for extra time. If your school doesnt get on your case about completing the test, then its up to you to make sure it gets done and submitted to immi within 90 days or your visa is void.

Although your school may not push you to have the test done quickly, you, however, will want to get it done quickly so that you can get a cellphone, open a bank account, etc. It normally takes one to five days to get the results from the tests.

They check 4 things with blood:
1. blood type (making sure it's you, I'm assuming, because I tell them my blood type every time)
2. cholesterol
3. liver function
4. HIV status

I don't even know my blood type. I will try to find it on any records I have.

You don't have to know it. They check it. They are very much interested in blood type in Korea. Don't sweat it. It is good to know, though, in case of emergency.

Remember your blood type, because it's a #1 "getting to know you" question around here. There's actually a movie called "B Type Boyfriend" which is about the troubles of dating a guy with B type blood.

Hey you guys I've decided to lay off the medication due to extreme paranoia at anything going wrong with my check up.

But, I still have the Rx and bottle. Should I still bring it with me? Will it be a problem. Do I need to declare it?

Its an Rx for 5 lonely Xanax...

My only international experience was at the Vietnam airport and well, let me put it like this, Nothing is a big deal except moving through the terminal as fast as possible.

You should be fine. I hate flying and got a little pilled up just before getting on the plane over. Was asleep before the plane took off, woke up for one meal and back to sleep until my connection in Japan. Best flight I ever had. Took my medicals the following Monday and nothing was said about it.
