As simple as the title said. The software I have used so far has been pretty mediocre, so it has to be something better out there which I have not been able to find. |

I used Red Kawa iPod Video Converter for my iPod touch www.redkawa.com.
It is free and easy to use but bit slow to convert. Converting torrents to Ipod video format all the time was the main reason I got an Android phone instead of an iPhone. No converting, just drag and drop. Gave the iPod Touch to my wife. |

I've found the easiest way is to download the VLC app for iPhone. If you have this app, you don't need to convert anything. When you connect your iPhone and open iTunes, click on the App section of your iPhone. If you scroll down, you can just drag and drop video files into the VLC player section. Much easier than conversion although quality is not as good. |

VLC app is no longer available. Additionally while it is convenient, it chews through battery power. You'll get much better battery life with converted videos played on the iPhone's media player. |

It is available on Installous, and here:

Handbrake is a decent converter. |

Xilisoft video converter ultimate 6, is what I have. Can be otherwise acquired. Just drag in the file, choose what you want to be outputted (there is a pull down menu for various formats)
and hit convert.
Pretty simple, fast, quality is good. |

Not overly impressed so far. A bit inconvenient to install. Somewhat fishy feeling (if you try to uninstall the trail it automatically opens a site to explain how you can get a free version of the program through commercials as a last resort to make you use it). The default output format for iPhone4 is 1280x720 which is makes little sense since the phone is using 960x640, the other iPhone4 option is 640x480. After acquiring the full version the program crashed within 10 minutes of using it when I was trying to queue up new videos while it was converting other ones.

So far this has been my biggest issue with the iPhone 4. Converting is bad enough, but all this hassle with 3rd party software to do something that should be integrated natively is a real turn off. |

Never had any crashes or problems, I installed it awhile ago and it seemed to be standard for cracked software.
Sorry you're having trouble, but I've been using it for about a year or so hassle free. |

Air Video allows me to watch all my video over 3G or Wifi because it converts on the Fly.
Also, you can make it convert files normally. |

i bought the AVplayer app from the itunes store. works just like vlc player app but as someone said before, vlcplayer is no longer available.
just load the movie of any format into your AVplayer folder and it should play. it costs money, maybe like 3 bucks, but well worth it if u watch movies |

This program was very convenient. I've still to see how much battery it consumes, but hopefully it wont be too bad. The wifi-transfer didn't work, but that was probably because of router/forwarding problems. |
