I'll preface this post by saying I know a bit about computers, but I'm not a computer guy so I have limited knowledge.
I've been using my laptop at home in place of a desktop for the last few years. I'm considering upgrading, and as I never take my laptop with me anywhere, I figure I'd be better off getting a desktop.
All I'd really be using it for is the Internet, Skype, downloading and watching movies, and MS Office. I don't play games. I'd like something that isn't going to bog down much if I'm downloading, watching a movie and running a few programs at the same time.
About how much money am I looking at for a system that can do this? (not including monitor)
And are there any brands to avoid or to look for here?
And what about Costco in Korea? I bought my current laptop at Costco in Canada because I got a good deal. Are computers at Costco in Korea worth checking out?

Thanks

I got one that can do roughly that for 430,000 on gmarket. For a few extras (i already had a cd/dvd player for example) you could go to 500,000. Actually you could probably do it for 400.

The cheapest in-store solution is in Sunin-Plaza, Yongsan......they have recommended systems priced from 400,000 upwards. Last I looked.

Pick the system you like from presets listed on posters.......or agree a custom build of your own.

300,000 won for that. Avoid brand name pre-built computers. Go to little computer shop hole in the wall place. Core 2 Duo with 2gigs of ram and on-board video.

Computer getting bogged down is 99% user error/neglect. 2GB of RAM is able to handle almost anything if you aren't gaming or rendering video.

I'll go along with this one.

I personally like J-Tech computers over at seon-in plaza but there are others there with comparable pricing and all the systems there are built while you wait (not off the shelf) so you do have the option to make changes if you want to.
