I renewed my contract for another year. My boss took my passport/visa and ARC in order to renew them, yet the only change was an amendment written on the back of my ARC. My final entry date on my visa is now past due.

If anyone out there has renewed their visa, how did that work? What should have changed?

When you extend, it doesn't matter what your old visa says. All that matters is the date that they put on the ARC card(probably still using the old black markers on those as well). The expiration of your visa has little to do with your employment now that you've got the ARC. People, the ARC is the most important thing. That holds the key to how long you can stay. The date on the back of your ARC determines your final day in Korea.

So that unofficial looking scribble on the back of the ARC is supposed to get me back in? Hm.

The date on the Visa is just the date for when you can enter the country the first time to work. The ARC covers everything else

The writing on the back of your card should have a date- that is your new exit date. Dont be surprised there is no extension sticker in your passport, they dont generally do that. You ARC is the only thing that matters and its the only thing that gets changed (not a new card, just notes written on the back) when you extend, renew, change home address, change work address, change employers, etc.
