I've been following all of this crap and I promised myself I was going to stay out. But, Kheldar, you are a bit wrong here.
I agree with you that some business practices need to change, but to say that artists are not affected when someone illegally downloads music is just wrong. The artists do get money (however little it may be) based on how many sales they have, and when people download illegally, they lose this money. It really isn't very fair to them.
That being said, like others here I have downloaded the occasional MP3 and I do feel bad about doing it. |

Fair enough. But it's not on the same level as someone who illegally downloads and sells their copies for profit, like all those movies you see around Korea. That's just wrong. Downloading some mp3s, listening to them for awhile, and deleting them later? Bleh, that's nothin'. Streaming radio was born as an alternative (which I actually prefer) to downloading mp3s. |

You raging nerds sure are precious. U mad, bros?
Apple's leading the pack on profits or whatever. It was said in this thread that they pay to have exclusive rights to technology before other manufacturers get their hands on it. Smart business model, but it's a hindrance to technological development. Apple's holding us back to make a buck. When Jobs kicks it, I wonder what the void will bring because Apple will be nothing without Jobs, yet Jobs owes the success of MacOS to UNIX. Either way, he's looking pretty sickly, I don't care what his blood pressure is.
Microsoft has a monopoly on big business, government, and institutional organizations. They have a stranglehold on bureaucracy because they're run by bureaucrats making bureaucratic software bureaucratically. How incredibly boring. Problem is, they'll dominate when Jobs croaks. Yet more douchebaggery from big corporations.
MacOS and Windows owe their livelihoods to Xerox. And yet they're just fancy-looking, but feature-bare user interfaces that pale in comparison to the raw capabilities of UNIX, BSD, and Linux platforms. mac weenies and pc geeks can't flex. Deal. Open your eyes.
The future is looking on people like Pranav Mistry and Steve Mann. These are real innovators.
Ipads are pieces of garbage, not fit to be toys or paperweights. Microsoft-based machines are ticking timebombs. I want real innovation - wearable computers that recognize and interact with visual cues. I want a flying car. I want an HPV that can go 100 kmh. Your arguments are meaningless and invalid in the face of the future.
Mods, end this thread. |

Here's a real question for the pencil necks:
Do you like Kirk or Picard? |
Picard , of course!!!
BTW, I prefer the term geek. Not nerd. Nerds have poor social skills and don't get girlfriends.......
A geek is just somebody really into something.... |

| I think it's great to have rivalries: Michigan vs Ohio State, USC vs UCLA, Jets vs Dolphins, Ford vs Chevy. Apple vs IBM in the 80's and Mac vs Windows in the 90's were the rivalries if you liked computers back then. This thread has been a little disappointing in the fact that so many are indifferent to the other. Where's the loyalty? Where's the passion? There's been a few (mostly Macheads) that have taken it to a personal level but it's all good. I take it as a compliment when someone has to attack me personally (as opposed to my post) because I must have really hit a sore spot. Things haven't changed much over time and Macheads are still bitter about playing for the losing team. One last cheap shot: I guess I'd be pissed off too if I always overpaid for my computer and had little to show for it. |
I dont see any bitter "Macheads" (you sure have a funny way of being classy) here and I'm not sure how Apple is losing, or what Mac users have invested in this "game". Most Mac owners seem happy with their purchase. The OP asked if they should get a Mac or a PC. Apple customers explained why they liked their computers. PC customers did the same. Only a few people went off the deep-end to make attacks, and most of them were on Apple owners.
You've posted several times explaining how "Macheads" are clueless, though I'm not sure how the blind can lead the blind as none of your posts have really carried any logical weight. |

| When the word "machead" comes out, it usually indicates that the pc/Windows side is out of ideas. I'm surprised it took this many pages because basically there was only one argument: macs are expensive. Not one criticism about reliability, support, the OS itself... no, just the price, the most subjective part of the purchase. Pretty underwhelming, as far as mac vs pc threads go. |

| I don't get it. Where did anyone mention the "blue screen of death" in this thread? And are you disagreeing with me? Or do you have something to add other than "macs are really, really expensive"? |

Not going to scour through this whole thread, but:
"Also, since OSX (OS9.x was a nightmare), my Macs have been really stable. No blue screen of death for me. "
"it's virtually uncrashable for every PC user that's faced the "blue screen of death""
It's also a common criticism mac fan boys still use even in 2011! Let's not play dumb. Mac users always say that windows always crashes, when in fact it doesn't.
And yes Mac's are overpriced |

For me downloading doesn't lose the artist a penny, as I wasn't going to buy their work anyway. Man, a dvd movie at a record store or wherever is what 20, 30 pounds back home. That is isnane! A cd is what 15 pounds? bugger that.
I'd just rent them from the public library, I didn't even use blockbusters. When I did buy dvds or cds it was from car boot sales or 2nd hand stores in london.
So the artist would never have gotten my money anyway because I don't pay the ridiculous rip off prices for new dvds or cds anyhow.
Only time I pay full price is the cinema or a concert. |

Maybe that's because even in 2011, more people use Windows XP (which crashes) than Windows 7.
So... are you disagreeing with me? Macs are overpriced and... |
