I'm in the market for a nice suit at a reasonable price. Can anyone recommend a good tailor in the Seoul area. I know that you can't walk down the street in Itaewon without a half dozen salesmen trying to push a suit on you, but are any of them decent?
Thanks in advance for any information. |

Paris tailor, a few shops up from the corner I still imagine as burger king but long ago morphed into quiznos or a coffee place or something (on the main drag around the corner from what I know is now Taco Bell.) |

i bought 3 or so suits from a tailor in itaewon. word is they all have the same book of materials, outsource the work to dongdaemun tailors and have it sold back to us. i had all mine done at alpha tailors. its toward the end and near the international yellow sign, if you wanted a specific reference.
i am willing to bet the are all the same quality. to be sure, check for solid stitching and no extra thread. |

I would avoid Itaewon tailors......Korean tailoring has a generally very low rep in the world of tailoring.
The only instance where I'd recommend an Itaewon tailor is if you are a very big size.
The best quality and prices are in department stores during their frequent sales. |

I had a suit made at Dynasty Tailor, it's a great fit and a modern style. Other nations may have better tailors, but I doubt you're going to fly over to Savile Row. |

For those who have bought a decent looking / fitting suit, can I ask how much you paid for it?
Thanks,

Hahns is meant to be the best in Itaewon but I had two pairs of trousers made there and they were awful. I complained and they altered them, after which they were still awful. Avoid.
Segi Taylor is supposed to be excellent but you are starting off at around 2,000,000 won on one of their suits.
Cambridge Members in the dept stores are good. I'd avoid the taylors in Korea... |

Yikes! Who - besides CEO's and movie stars - pays $2000 for a suit? Maybe I'll just pick a nice shiny silver one off the $60 rack at emart. |

Really. Korean tailors are a crapshoot......you might get a decent suit......but I believe it more likely that you'll get some cheap material glued together in an unfashionable mess.
I speak from experience. The suit I had tailor-made in Itaewon disintegrated after 1 year. Cost me 500,000.
The department stores don't sell that kind of low quality stuff.
Also, if you have the Korean skills, or a helpful Korean friend, you can get great deals on the internet. My wife found me a one-plus-one deal for Pierre Cardin suits. I got two suits for 70,000 won! No kidding! And they aren't bad either........why so cheap? Because they are 3 button jackets. The fashion in Korea is for 2 button suits. These suits were out of fashion so they were virtually giving them away. |

That's awesome, for two Pierre Cardin suits? But I'm not at all surprised. They are slaves to a certain look, and damn anyone who fails to conform to the look of the month. |
