Has anyone (everyone?) else's internet slowed to a crawl since last night. I am just wondering if I should call in this problem or if it is just from everyone streaming tsunami videos.
Yes, I realize that my slow internet is not the biggest problem caused by this disastrous earthquake. I am not making any comparison like that.
I am just taking some internet classes from America, and can't stream the lectures, and downloading files is taking about 10X longer. Just wondering...

Mine is fine with some websites, but terrible with others. BBC and Youtube are barely working at all.

Could a trans-Pacific cable have been broken?

I've used both Youtube and BBC yesterday and today. No problems whatsoever.

Undersea cable damage is reported to be minimal. I haven't noticed any slowdowns.

I had real problems starting last night at home. This morning was better but still not up to what it normally is. At work today everything is fine. I think it is more of a building usage / capacity thing than anything else. Maybe there are just more people online trying to stream videos and that causes bottlenecks in certain places.

I also noticed a significant drop in speed yesterday evening. I thought it was a problem related to the office server but it was the same at home and on a friend's iphone. The problem seems to be intermittent. It's generally slow on all sites, but sometimes some sites (seems like Google related sites in particular) slow down to a standstill then pick up again after a bit and go back to semi-slow.

I'm in America and I'm trying to access a friend's Cyworld site, but it is slow as balls. Like dial-up slow. Slower than dial-up slow. Pages fail to load half-the time.

According to the article below, it seems the earthquake did do some damage to the undersea cables.
