Ok I got my CBC from here;

http://www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/police-checks/national-police-checks.aspx#contact

I then got the original apostilled at The Department of Foreign Affairs and sent it on to my recruiter.

My recruiter is pushing for time and has said it isnt an original because it looks like a print out. Well it does it looks crap but thats what the Federal Police issued and the Australian Government Apostilled it so where did I go wrong? She has told me Australians get a copy of it like the card board paper diploma is yet I got just a slip of paper!

Now she is telling me that immigration is not accepting it saying it is a copy but if it is a copy it would be notarized which it isnt as it is just apostilled! What do I do? This is an original as the apostille is stamped on it meaning the Australian Government accepted it as an original why cant they?

Please inform me as the AFP have a holiday today and I cant do anything about it! Did I get the wrong one?

I think your mistake was not getting it notarised. I have my recent AFP CBC and it is on a piece of paper, maybe it is a good piece of paper but it isn't on cardboard. i did get it notarised and then apostilled. I think every recuriter I have talked to have told me you need both.

Austsaint is right. It has to be notarised. Mine was simply a piece of paper also.

My apostilles aren't separate pieces of paper, they're just stuck on the back of the documents.

I didn't need my AFP CBC notarised; the DFAT in Brisbane told me not to it. (I thought notaries public could only notarise documents from their own state jurisdiction?)

Isn't the point of the apostille process is that it can followed up? Can't immigration check with the embassy to see if an apostille has been issued for that document in your name? If they really have a problem with it?

This is the email I got:

Dear Chris

Thank you for your enquiry.

I have attached the application form for you to download and complete (6 pages), together with an information sheet. When you have completed the application form, it needs to be posted to Criminal Records Unit, Locked Bag 1, Weston ACT 2611 together with a cheque or money order in Australian dollars and affiliated with an Australian bank.

Payment needs to be a cheque or money order in Australian dollars and affiliated with an Australian bank. Your bank should be able to advise you on where you can obtain this from. Our office cannot accept payment by credit card or bank transfer.

The current processing time for a routine National Police Check is approximately 15 working days from the date received by Criminal Records. Please be aware that processing times for national police checks may vary as the AFP is reliant on other police jurisdictions for some information.

We also recommend that you allow sufficient time for processing and return by postal services before making enquiries regarding your application.

If you have any questions please call our Help Desk on (02) 6202 3333 between 0900 - 1700, Monday to Friday (excluding Public Holidays)

Kind Regards,

SHEREE YARDLEY

CANBERRA OFFICE
AUSTRALIAN FEDERAL POLICE

Tel +61(0) 2 62023333 Fax +61(0) 2 62023377 www.afp.gov.au

I am also from Brisbane. Then when I got it back, I had it notorized at Ann St in the city, across from Central Station. And apostilled. Not sure in what sequence.

I scanned the original document (light blue A4 sheet) & still have it in my files.

It reads:

POLICE CERTIFICATE
issued by
QUEENSLAND POLICE SERVICE

This is to certify that there are no 'disclosable court outcomes' recorded against the name of Chris xxxxx, born in Brisbane, Qld, on xxxx in the records of the police service of Australia.

Issued in Brisbane this ..... day of 2009

..............................................

Authorised Officer.

Is this the document you received?

Chris, your post reads "Queensland Police Service ". Are you talking about a state check or an AFP check?

State check, which was adequate in 2009, or I wouldn't be in Korea at the moment.

You really should fully research the requirements before even attempting the traumatic process that is the Korean E2.

Don't trust recruiters- many of them are clueless about what is needed. If they are incompetent and give you faulty info, you will be the one footing the bill.

Its tempting to just stick your head in the sand and hope for the best, but
be sure to do all the legwork needed. Cover all your bases. Exhaustively. Thoroughly.

Requirements change from day to day, depending on the whims of govt. ministers. Be sure to keep up with them. Check with immi personally. Actually, hold on, in my exp some of their operators do not even know the requirements and may give out-of-date info. Better yet, check with newbies who got E2's days earlier and ask them exactly what they needed. Even ask them what office- because different offices and even officials vary with requirements.

Expect the unexpected. This is Korea.

Because if one hair is out of place on your application, the goons at immi will take great delight in torpedoing your plans and potentially causing you massive inconvenience. If you have already paid air fares or whatever... kiss it goodbye. Your recruiter will drop you in a millisecond.

Having been dragged through the hedge of red tape and officialdom backwards, several times, a pot of gold awaits you in Korea. If they decide to pay you of course.

I was in a hurry and did research a bit on it.

The Korean Immigration rung back and said it was ok and false alarm!

WOW thanks for the stress. They said they were worried it was a fake to which I said just ring Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade considering they have a massive red stamp on the back to prove it is an original.

The problem is that they say too many changes to the E-2 Visa process is confusing even people who process them and they also said our criminal record checks look dodgy and want us to recommend using quality paper and not print-outs haha that was funny. It was even slightly lighter than usual because the ink would have been running low which makes Australia look cheap....

But all is good they accepted it Smile!

Unless the immigration requirements for CBC's have changed since 2009, this is incorrect. My Qld CBC was adequate. In any case, a CBC is only good for 6 months.

I think it is because of the new E-2 requirements that has changed the state to federal CBC.

notorized. Even though I prefer the 'z' spelling, when I worked in government, we were ordered to use the 's' spelling. Thus authorise, organise, notorise.
