I'm looking for a new contract and I've never gone through recruiters before...and I've heard a few firsthand horror stories. Any recommendations? |

Whoops...there is an FAQ on this, isn't there.
Which one to avoid and why? |

Footprints are ok. However if you are a teacher with some experience they are definitively not the way to go. |

All of them . They are, 90%, just interested in placing you so that they can get their cut. I know it is their business, but it doesn't make them any more believable. |

How about recruiters to avoid.
Just had a guy at cometokorea.com try to lie to me. I asked for a position in a big city with no kinder garden. He rings me and offers me a position in a tiny city (20,000 people) and it took 2 phone calls for him to finally admit its size.
He then tells me that there is 1 kinder class per day at which point I told him that I was not interested. 20 minutes later in another phone call he tells me that the school has cancelled its kinder class. I ask him why the school hours are starting at 11am if there are no kinder. He makes a lame excuse. I then ask him for an email address of the current teacher. He says sure Ill email it to you only to never to be heard of again.
Guess I was getting to close to the truth. |

Don't forget the balacklists. I always check this before contacting a recruiter but if you're in Korea you can just go to some schools direct and see for yourself. If you get offered a job more than likely the salary will include the recruiters cut also:

Point taken, but your link is not exactly a blacklist as such with most posters just wanting more info. There must be a more comprehensive blacklist somewhere? |

i just got screwed by NEO consulting. they have no personel in my city to visit schools and actually had no concept of the living conditions i was entering(which are hilarious at best). i have informed them of the situation i am in, but i get nothing but defensive bull. my director told me today that another unsuspecting recruit will arrive on sunday...he's in for a huge shock! |

You have to hit the 'all schools' link on hogwan.com. I think you may have been only looking at 'most recent entires'. |
