|
|
I don't think most of my Korean friends understand what "interested in" means on Facebook... Otherwise about 80% of them are bisexual or gay...
I thought... no way... he's not gay? he has a girlfriend? Or her? really? I thought she was interested in me?
This is of the utmost importance. Koreans already confuse me as it is, let alone having ambiguous sexual preferences.
We need to educate them, that's our job!
Tomorrow's lesson: "interested in" vs. "looking for friendship." |

| To be fair to your Korean friends, this is more likely a problem with facebook's Korean translation. Most Koreans use facebook in Korean, not English. |

| The first rule of Korean Facebook is you don't use the Korean transation of it. |

| Another one is "open relationship." Other Asian friends of mine seem to think it means "not in a secret relationship." |

Gem
My gf has a married friend who's status is "complicated". I asked if he was unhappy with his marriage because of that, she denied it... |

| I think people got confused by "interested in" because there used to be another "interested in" category...purpose of using facebook. Dating, networking, friendship, "whatever i can get," etc. Being interested in both sexes would make sense if you were on facebook for networking. They seem to have removed that though. |

This. Why is it weird to be interested in someone the same sex as you if you're just looking for a friend?
Perhaps some people need to grow up and realize that not everyone sees the world as a giant meat market. |

| When I was in college and facebook came out in 2004, I put "interested in women and men" because that's who I wanted to make friends with. So everyone at my school thought I was bisexual for a while. |

Sounds pretty korean. A lot of unnecesary secrecy surrounding a lot of entirely honorable and ordinary relationships. |

Between this and the people who view facebook as a place to post pictures involving drunken times I'm really wondering about canceling my account.
1)Why do people feel the need to take pictures while you are drinking? And then post them on facebook? Have they not read the stories about employers seeking those things out?
2)Why do said people assume that your only friends are other 20-something partiers? Mention that you are friends with parents/children (some of my students)/church people and they look at you like you are retarded....
3)Why the stupid tagging system? That just needs to die. I think I have my security settings correct, but I'm not sure.
Maybe I need to go back to myspace....or join cyworld... |

If you're security settings are right, random people including employers can't look at your pictures. Who cares if you're drinking, especially in Korea. As long as you're not doing outrageous things in the pic.
And go back to myspace?
