I thought I read (cannot find the blasted thread) someone somewhere say that you will lose your original FBI CBC if you send it, so you are supposed to apostille a copy of it...like you apostille a copy of your diploma...is this correct??

Mine should be back in a week or two (unless I jinxed it by saying that), and I'll take it with my diploma for the apostille after notarizing...but again, to clarify...am I notarizing and getting apostille for copy of CBC or original?

they want the original apostille FBI CBC. what you can do for some assurance is to send it either through fedex and make sure to have a tracking number so that you can see where the document is going. if i remember there have been very very few threads with people losing documents they shipped over to korea.

in the end it is a risk, but it is a risk that we have no choice but to do.

hope this helps

You can't even apostille a copy of the FBI. Well you can try, but it'll look like a fake when you submit it. Why?

When you copy a FBI check, (you can try it yourself), the entire document will say, "unauthorized copy" all over the document.

- apostille copy of degree/diploma
- apostille original FBI

Thanks so much. I thought that was the process, but whatever thread I apparently made up in my head confused me.

Also, as far as notarizing the FBI CRC, that only has to be done when you are sending it to your states SOS for the apostille, correct? My recruiter is telling me it does not have to be notarized first, but I have a friend who went on Monday to her SOS and was told it had to be notarized first.

If you're in Texas, not sure if you can do it. But you can try.

the right way to notarize an FBI CBC varies from state to state. I don't know the exact process if you are in Texas.
if you want to play it safe and get it apostille without notarizing then send it directly to Washington DC for a federal apostille. if you want to get it done faster in state then I would get the document notarized then get the county clerk to authenticate the notary signature and then take it to the SOS for the apostille.

the second is how i processed my apostille in CA, but I did everything in person. hope this helps

Yeah people on the forum are saying it's taking forever to get the apostille through D.C. now. Like 1 month to 1 1/2 months wait time including weekends. From other people on the forum, they're saying you can't even do it in Texas, but maybe they're wrong. You have to try it for yourself or just go with the state your friend had done it in.

Yeah, I just called and checked and Texas doesn't do federal docs.

Do you know....if I were to send it to a friend in DC to take to the SOS, will they do it, or do I have to be there in person?

Is your document signed and sealed by Kimberly J. Del Greco? If it is, you can.

If it's not signed and you need it in a rush, you can go to a different state to do it or use an apostille service (they notarize and apostille, they have it apostille the same day and ship it out the same day) for you.

Texas WILL NOT provide an apostille for the FBI Background Check. It doesn't matter if bring Kimberly to the office, they won't do it. I live in Austin and went to the Secretary of State's office on Brazos Street and asked them flat out. Their answer? "We don't provide apostilles for FBI background checks."

Thanks so much. The service is my best bet, I think. I've seen that on a thread...I'll look up that website. I think apostille.us or something if I'm recalling correctly from memory.

Right, I meant if I sent a friend with my CRC to the SOS in DC, not Texas. Millyfrend was saying that if it was signed and sealed by Kimberly J. Del Greco, then I would be able to do that.

There is a walk-in service in DC. If you trust your friend enough to get it apostilled, then yeah you can do that.

I'm in Texas too. I got my degree apostilled in Austin, when there I asked about the CBC, they declined.

I used apostillepros.com. Excellent service and turnaround time. Pricey, but considering I'll be set back months if my CBC is messed up, I decided to spend the money. Also I'll make more than the $175, actually working in Korea, in the 4-6 weeks it would have taken to send my CBC in to DC. Apostillepros sends it to CA and gets the state to apostille bc its cheaper than getting docs apostilled at the federal level.

apostillepors.com! i was looking for that, thank you so much! i don't mind the fee if it cuts off 60'ish days. i accepted a job that starts in May, so it's necessary.

did you take your degree to Austin for walk in service or did you mail it? if you mailed it, how long did it take? i'm in Dallas.

I did the walk in service. There is a notary a few blocks away too. I had mailed it in to my home state, but it got lost in the mail or they lost it... not sure which. It was a real hassle. If you're getting close to the deadline to submit everything at least you have the option to just drive down.
