Anyone been there before? If so, please share some wisdom.

I read about a place in Mindanao that is known as the beach capital of the Philippines. It's nearby Davao. I'd love to go, but the information is few and far between.

I read it in a magazine on a plane in PI. Either Cebu Pacific or Zest. For the life of me, I couldn't remember its name, but I think it was Mati. Looked nice.

Be careful on Mindanao. That's all I can say. Be friendly and smile a lot.

haha..I rent an apartment in Calbayog Western Samar, otherwise known as the "Killing Fields". I figure there is a murder once a week. After 20 years of spending 5-6 mos a year in the Philippines, I doubt I'm afraid to go anywhere. I've been to Cagayan De Oro several times without incident. Davao will be a cakewalk compared to Calbayog or the streets of Manila. Smile

I recently read that there were 96 foreigners murdered in the last 2 years in the Philippines. Few if any happened in Mindanao. None in Samar ever recorded. Unfortunately the vast majority were in Angeles Pampanga. Did you happen to read about the the Dizon serial murders? He killed like 6 foreigners in Angeles after robbing them blind. He was actually caught red-handed with the loot but manged to walk on the murder charges. Not enough evidence they claimed hahaha. As the name implies he was no doubt connected to the Dizon family of Makati. The only message that can be taken from this is that its open season on foreigners in the Philippines Sad

Am I scared of rebels in Davao Oriental? Na!

Tourists in Angeles being murdered? Not so unfortunate.

Do they count the HK tourists that were killed on that bus by the SWAT team? I guess ineptness and murder are different.

It was a joke. A large number of tourists in Angeles are sex tourists.

I'm guessing you have spent little to no time in Angeles. Fair enough as its not for everybody. But to even joke about it being okay for Sex Tourists to be brutally murdered is not only in bad taste but borders on complete insensitivity. What about the Korean School teacher and his wife who were murdered, or the 70 year old retired US serviceman who was murdered a long with his live-in girlfriend and 2 housemaids in Angeles? They were hardly sex tourists.

What you don't realize is all the good that these so called Sex Tourists do in Angeles, such as the Bahay Bata Center Charities. Another is the The Men @ Work club designed ostensibly to give well meaning people an opportunity to help those less fortunate than themselves. Through the Men @Work club people donate funds which are then be used to help the Duyan ni Maria Orphanages. Not to mention the fact that at Christmas many of the bars put up CHRISTMAS GIFT TREES and invite guys to place gifts so that could be distributed amongst sick children in the hospitals of AC. There is also Kokomo's annual Xmas feed for all the street kids in Angeles. These are only a few charities among many. I don't know anywhere in the Philippines where there is so much charity without connection to some corrupt religious organization.

Angeles has probably the highest standard of living for Filipinos in the country. They get decent jobs in the foreign owned hotels, restaurants, and bars. Often they get health insurance included in their employment packages. Nor do they get laid off after 6 months like most Filipino companies. And while I agree there is a lot of prostitution in Angeles, it is not forced in the foreign owned bars. And who are we as men to say what a woman should be allowed or not allowed to do with their bodies, as long as they are of consenting age.

It always cracks me up when you have foreigners take the high moral ground when it comes to Angeles. These are usually the same people who sit at home watching documentaries about Angeles that over dramatize and sensationalize just for news sake, while at the same time using goods that are known to produced with child labor or forced labor (e.g., Bricks , Carpets , Flowers , Diamonds, Blueberries, Bricks, Cotton, Garlic, Garments, Grapes, Olives, Strawberries,Tobacco, Tomatoes Dried Fish, Footwear, Furniture , ...the lists go on and on! Hypocrisy plain and simple!

Fair enough, joke retracted. Terrible tragedies, all murders.

If Angeles is so great, you can spend your time there and I won't look down on you for it. I will avoid it.
