Hmmm, so OC'ing isn't really that beneficial for gaming? I was under the impression that OC'ing your CPU essentially made it a faster CPU. Wouldn't that affect game performance?
I know RAM timings aren't the most important thing in the world, but I thought OC'ing would see at least a small improvement in real world performance. Not so much? |
It's because any recent or decently powerful CPU is already fast enough. Of course, a 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo will show an improvement in gaming when overclocked. But these days, most CPU's are coming stock at 2.6GHz or higher. And most games are able to utilize 2 cores. Unless you are bottlenecking with a crazy GTX580 or something, its enough.
All games are different as well, some are much more CPU intensive and benefit more from a CPU overclock, but generally, an GPU overclock will get you way further. |

Ahh right on. So there is additional power granted from OC'ing the CPU, its just that games aren't able to use all that power at this point. But 2 or 3 years down the road, when games are pushing harder on a system it might actually make a bigger difference I'm assuming.
Gonna be getting the PC built next week. Pretty much settled on getting a HD6950 2GB for the video card. After putting it through its paces for a couple weeks to make sure it isn't a dud, planning on doing the bios flash trick to make it a 6970:

At least assuming they haven't started using the hardware to disable the extra shaders instead of the bios yet. |

That's why I often wait with overclocking my system until I actually need the power. It's a great way to extend the lifetime of your computer for free. |

A fine system!
I would hold back on installing the three extra fans until you think you need them. Three additional fans will add quite a bit of noise to the system. |

Where did you order all those parts from? What website? Also did you order from several websites or just 1 particular one?
I want to build my own as well but dont want to spend 1,000,000. I just want Phenom x4 955 and 6850 or 5850. Should be around 600-700,000won
Can you tell me what website it was and about how long it will take to get it?
Also I dont plan on overclocking ever so is it okay if i get a not-so-over the-top motherboard and PSU? Like around 500-600w? |

I ordered from 2 different websites because one didn't have the RAM I wanted.
I couldn't find better deals on 20 other websites than what I found on:
daumpc.co.kr
I paid today and they shipped it out. Should be here by tomorrow! |
