So I recently finished a contract with a university. My contract says verbatim regarding return airfare: "Employer will pay for a return ticket to the destination of the employees choice for the same or less than the original plane ticket's value."

Now before I finished my contract with my old employer, I received a job from a new employer effective three days after the completion of my contract. When I asked for a return plane ticket, my employer said "Oh we don't have to pay for it because you have a new visa." There is no clause in my contract even similar to that.

Now I really am planning on going home but my employer has refused to pay for it because I transferred my visa to a new employer. It still has not been 1 full month since my last day of work with my previous employer.

Is there anything I can do about it?

Agreed. If it's in your contract, and you are in fact leaving the country, then they need to give you a ticket out of here. If the contract doesn't state otherwise, then it makes no different whether you're returning afterwards or not.

I'm having the same problem. My school informed me today that they will not pay for a plane ticket home if I'm staying in Korea and switching jobs. I want to visit the US for about 2 weeks between contracts. My current school said that they'll pay for a plane ticket if I either renew with them or go back to the US permanently. One of my co-teachers knows I'm looking for work in Korea because I'm using him as a reference, so I can't lie.

I'm on the GEPIK contract, which is vague about this issue. Am I entitled to my plane ticket home, even though I'm only going to be in the US for a couple of weeks before starting a new job in Korea? (For the record, I only want a flight to the US from my current school, not the flight back to Korea).

I'm also with Gepik and in my contract it states that I don't get airfare money if I transfer visa. I only get it if I leave Korea for good or renew with the school.

You should still get the ticket back home if you aren't staying with your current school. I guess you are extending your visa and getting a letter of release? Is your new school willing to pay for your flight back to Korea?

I will most likely get a new visa from the Seattle consulate while I'm visiting that area. It's possible that I might transfer, though, and I don't think I'd need a letter of release because I'll be finishing my current contract.

I don't know yet exactly where I'll be working next. One school that I'm strongly considering has offered airfare back to Korea, but another wants to send me on a visa run to Japan instead.
