A few weeks ago someone here suggested that a board game cafe host an ESL night where English teachers could come in with their students and play games together. Well, we've decided to do that at our game cafe in Hongdae on Sunday the 15th. All English teachers and their students will get a 25% discount and I'll be happy to provide service in English to your students. We have several games that could be considered helpful for ESL students, including Apples to Apples, Once upon a Time, and Quiddler.

Also, we have 3 openings for a Diplomacy game at our place on the 8th and/or the 15th, starting at 12pm. Holler if you'd like to participate.

Our board game cafe in Hongdae is hosting our next charity night, on Tuesday, March 30. Ten percent of all proceeds after 7pm will be donated to the Korean Animal Protection Agency (www.koreananimals.org). Guests are also welcome to donate extra if they like.

We're still planning our next charity night here at my game cafe for next Tuesday, the 30th. And once again, we'll be donating a chunk of our profits to a local animal shelter; but next month, we want to try something different.

While blogging last night, I came across a link to a charity group called Operation Iraqi Children. They're a group that is working to get desperately needed school supplies to schools all across Iraq. They're inviting schools and other organizations to collect such items, box them up, and mail them to some sort of U.S. military base in Iraq. From there, the boxes are distributed to schools around the country.

Now, I think this is a worthy cause, and I want to help. So my girlfriend and I have decided to make them the beneficiaries of our next charity night in late April. But I need help.

I'll be setting aside a box here at our cafe for people who would like to drop by and help the cause by donating some supplies. You can stay and hang out, plays some games, drink some coffee, whatever... or just pop in and pop out... it's up to you.

What to bring? Here's a list of suggested items:

Pens, Notebooks, Notebook paper, Pencils, erasers

Pencil sharpeners, Art supplies, Colored pencils, Crayons, Drawing paper, Computer paper

Folders, Rulers, Whiteboard pens/erasers, Metric sticks, Compasses, Protractors, Teacher grade books

Stuffed animals, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Hairbrushes/combs

Barrettes, Dental floss, Soap, Chalk

Anything small, not too heavy, and sturdy enough to survive the trip there would be great.

Then, on a date I'll set later (probably during the last week of April), we'll have another charity night to help raise the funds to ship our boxes to Iraq. Sound good?

These kids must have it tough... let's do our part to help them out.

Does that mean that bars can't have board games? I'm sure they do.

What's to prevent an existing bar from offering board games and taking business away from the board game cafes?

Also, there is one in Jongno, near the Burger King.

They've got alcohol at the one I went to with some friends last month. I live in Ansan but I don't know where in Ansan it was. Sorry. Near Haendaup I think.

I found one in Daegu, in the downtown area, close to that station that had the big fire.

I saw one in Jeonju as well, under construction, though. Not yet open.

The one in Daegu was called Jumanji, and it was excellent.

Jumanji must be a franchise then becuase they are all over Seoul too.
