Hello,
I am flying back to the Brooksville FL to finish up my Visa application materials. There is a lot of contradictory information as to what actually needs to be sent. I was hoping to find some clarification. Some questions:
1.) Is the FBI background check the only document that needs to go to the apostlle? Or do the sealed transcripts and diploma need to go as well?
2.) How do you send your materials to an apostille? It sounds a bit more complex than an notary.
3.) The Korean Embassy site says they have an interview. Does this mean I have to make an appointment and take the bus to Washington DC for an interview? Or an interview at the Korean consulate in Atlanta? Or do they do Skype interviews?
Thanks a bunch! I hope to be in South Korea having a beer among those who have had the patience for all of this!

1) Diploma needs an apostille, too. Transcripts do not need an apostille (Also, I don't think you can affix an apostille to something that is sealed).
2) If you're going to Florida, you'll have to check out the rules and requirements held by Florida's Secretary of State Office. Some states allow you to affix an apostille to out-of-state documents (don't know where your diploma comes from?--may be NA for you) and federal documents like the FBI CBC. See Riker's list for the FBI CBC state rules (http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=200961&start=0), but make sure you double check for yourself. Alternatively, you can send the FBI CBC to the Authentications Office in DC.
3) Contact the nearest consulate and see what they require/let you get away with. Florida falls under the Atlanta consulate jurisdiction.

I just did it from Gainesville, FL, pretty much once you get back the FBI background check, get the background check notarized and then send it to the fl state department at:
If by USPS:
Department of State
Division of Corporations
Apostille Certification
P.O. Box 6800
Tallahassee, FL 32314-6800
If by Fedex/DHL/UPS:
Department of State
Division of Corporations
Apostille Certification
2661 Executive Center Circle
Tallahassee, FL 32301
Make sure to include a cover letter saying you need it apostilled for S. Korea, check for 10 dollars, and include return postage. I sent it in last week Tuesday and got it back the same week on Saturday via USPS.

The recruiter im working with says I only need my diploma and criminal background check apostilled. |

| So, how do you notarize a copy of your diploma? Do they just stamp it on the back or something? Also, does the Korean consulate need to see your original diploma before you get it notarized, to "verify" it? |

| Go to your notary with your originally diploma and tell them that you want a notarized copy of the diploma, they'll make a copy and then certify that it's an original copy and all of that and then you just send that to the Fl State Dept. If your still in uni, you can probably get everything notarized for free, I'm at UF and the study abroad account is notarizing all of my stuff for free. |
