Hi guys

I arrived in Dongtan on Sunday, and I think I am settling in ok, although it is obviously all very starnge to me! I was just wondering if there was anyone on here living in Dongtan, is there much of a foreigner community, is there much to do etc. I'd like to get set up in a gym soon as well so if anyone had any info on that it'd be appreciated. Thanks

I live in Suwon, which is near Dongtan. The foreigners in Dongtan hang out at the local Wa Bar. You can also go to Yeongtong neighborhood of Suwon or take a bus to Gangnam in Seoul (about 45 minutes if traffic's decent).

Dongtan's a really nice place. Enjoy!

I've only been here 2 days so I can't even tell you anything about where I live, how far it is from any landmark etc. I don't even know the address. Pretty pathetic I know! Although I'm going to head out and about this weekend and get my bearings. I'll try and find out where the Wa Bar is too. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll know the area and will have met some other foreigners. I'm going out on Fri night with work colleagues, they're Korean-Canadians, no idea where we are going

I live and work in Dongtan. PM me. Let's grab a drink or coffee sometime.

There is a small foreigner community here. Let me know what school you are at. There are only two I know of, and I know you are not at mine, so I think I know the one you are at Smile.

As far as nightlife/fun/entertainment is at, we usually go to Yongtan or Seoul, because they are so close and the bus is really cheap. Wa Bar is good, though. So far, I have really enjoyed Dongtan.

As far as landmarks go, do you know the four huge skyscrapers in Dongtan? Or Central Park? You anywhere near there?

What kinda accommodation do you guys live in in Dongtan? Everything seems so clean and modern around there, there didn't seem to be any cheap slummy ghetto apartments appropriate for housing foreigners. Anyway, it'd be pretty awesome to live near Metapolis and all those parks around there. I wish Dongtan wasn't the exception as far as Korean cities go.

I've been here a week. My school is like a 5 minute walk from the Metapolis Building. I like the area Smile

Hi

My school is just a few minutes from Metapolis too. The city itself looks really nice altho I havn't seen much of it. I'm hoping to have a look round this weekend. My apt is nice but its in a really strange area, its about a 20 min walk from Metapolis but it feels like its a modern block out in the country! Very hard to find, its hard to explain. So I am feeling a bit isolated atm, esp as I have no phone. Mysteryadam I don't think I can send pm's yet, maybe you have to have a certain number of posts? Can you send me one? Thanks

There's a facebook group called "Dongtan Clan." Search for it. Buncha people on there. They go bowling sometimes.

Been here since August and have only one Dongtan friend whom I havent seen for a coupla months. Beautiful place, but not a lot going on.

I'd second the recommendation to head into Suwon or Seoul for fun.

I'm free tonight after 7 if you wanna grab dinner. I could meet you at the homeplus under Metapolis, say 730? I'll see if I can rustle up a map and give you a sense of your surroundings.

Just post back here if you wanna do it and I'll check back before I leave work.

Thanks man. My hagwon is about a 2 min walk from the homeplus, but I'll be working until 10 tonight, then I have a couple of things I want to talk to the principal about, but that info sounds really helpful and I'd appreciate that. Can you send me a pm and we can arrange it for another time, maybe some time over the weekend?

I've heard WA Bar is where we dongtan foreigners hang out, but I went there once with a coworker and saw no foreigners.

I don't think there are any Western style, walk around and meet people types of bars here. You can find a few in Suwon though.

If anyone knows better do let me know.

I have a job offer for Dongtan, how far from Seoul and Suwon is it? My recruiter has been a touch vague about the details. I have been to Suwon before but I am not currently in the ROK. From the little info I can gather on-line it looks OK? I think I am keen...
