I went to E-Mart Traders about a week ago. Went both on thursday evening and friday morning, both times it was virtually empty with no lines on anything, wait at cash was like 30 sec tops.
Its huge, built exactly like a costco, all signs are English and its very easy to get around. Theres a pretty big selection of wine, booze, cookies/muffins and meat, everything is decently sized and decently cheap.
To get there: Head down to Bojeong station, from there walk to the bus stop (don't cross the street) and catch almost any bus and its about 2 stops away. |
Thanks for directions. So, you're saying it's worth a look/see? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bojeong_Station |

carleverson, I believe you that prices are higher than Costco. I just want to see the bakery section. It's a shame that this one location is inconvenient for 99% of us. |

I went today, the bakery is the same as costco, 12 muffins, those 3 loaves, and the mix danish box, exactly the same as costco.
cheese and ham? yes.. they have a small selection.
would I go back? NO! sticking with costco.
they just don't have enough to keep me interested. |

A protest against E-Mart Traders in Ulsan at the link. They were protesting in what just might be a counterproductive way.

Classic!
Why purchase though? Couldn't they just walk around with a bag a chips and then decide to buy someplace else? |

E-mart Traders is no Costco. I looked at the baked goods and they were a pale imitation. The muffins looked all dried out, like they had cut back on the sugar and butter. The same goes for the donuts.
Yet people were standing in line to buy "morning bread," which was all snapped up as soon as it was baked. |

Maybe they bought 8,000 won worth of grape juice while they ate 10,000 won worth of chopped onions with ketchup and mustard in the food court. At that rate E-Mart Traders will go bankrupt in about 100 years. |

Does anyone know some good places to shop in Yongin for household goods, grocery and electronics besides Lotte Mart or E-Mart? I just arrived in Yongin a day ago and am already a little wary of what seems to be high prices at Lotte Mart (maybe high prices on goods are normal in Korea?). I live right near Lotte Mart but am wondering what my other options are in the vicinity. Thanks!! |

You should be able to find a HomePlus or HomePlus Express. I find HomePlus to be a little cheaper than E-Mart, but I don't think the savings would justify a long trek.
LotteMart prices are about par for the course. Prices can be high in Korea, depending on what you're buying.
For electronics you could try a HiMart or Samsung Digital Plaza. If what you're looking for is on sale, you can get good deals there. If it's not on sale, ask the salesperson for a discount. Samsung offers free delivery if you're buying something you can't carry. |

Online can be a better deal but other places have good deals too. Can you buy a TV and a refrigerator online and get a third major appliance for free? |

Depending on what you're buying for the price difference you can probably just buy the third appliance. |

I figured that was coming. Anyway, I've gotten good deals both ways, in store and online. |
