Have been contemplating on buying a Kindle for about half a year now, but kinda put it off, cause I still have some actual books to finish and wanted to wait till I�d go traveling. I heard the Kindle 4 might come out early summer this year.. but I�ve only heard some vague humors. Who knows more?

I bought mine a couple of weeks ago off of Amazon (US) and am very happy with it. I'm sure the new one will be nifty, so it's really up to you. I'm not going to regret it unless the new version makes tea and gives back rubs. There may be color, but that isn't important to me as of now.

I would wait if you have books to finish. Even if the new one isn't much better you'll be able to buy the current version cheaper after the new one comes out. As more people get the new ones or ipads the old ones are almost worthless. I had one given to me by an someone that bought an ipad.

The kindle is pretty cheap as is. Mine was 189 for the 3G version. I doubt the price would drop much (maybe 50 bucks?)

Well, yes $50 isn't nothing, but if you figure the price of the 3 or 4 books you'd buy before the new one comes out, it would even out. I'd rather just have the Kindle. The only reason that I waited was the fact that I had an iPad, but I finally gave in and am very happy with it.

Honestly, if you have a wireless router in your apartment or frequent places with wireless, you could just get the wireless model for $140. It doesn't take much time to download a book.

I would definitely recommend getting an ereader whether it is a Kindle or not! I recently got a Kobo ereader from Boarders and I love it!

You can share the books you have on it with friends and find most of the books you would like to read for free online.

I have a kobo, and have mixed reviews. I love having an ebook reader, the screen is comfortable, the device is light, etc, but mine has broken TWICE now (maybe bad luck), though each time they have shipped a replacement to Korea, or agreed to (right now I have been waiting for my new one for a month now... :/ ) First time the "next page"/right button caved in on one side (within 3 weeks or so of getting it new), and then after I got a new/replacement one (they shipped it to Korea for me), I went to Singapore and the humidity in the air gave it permanent screen damage, enough to prevent me from being able to read with it. Can't really complain too much, since they are at least replacing it free. It was a gift, originally.

I'd maybe be tempted by a kindle if they had epub support, and if I didn't have an ebook reader that will be replaced. I figure I must have just been unlucky with the kobo because if they break so easily it would be cheaper to build a better quality machine than ship replacements each time something goes wrong.

I hope I have better luck with mine than you did with yours! I just got recently as a gift as well. I will be sure to be extremely gentle with it.

I think I just had bad luck. If their product was that crappy, they wouldn't be so ready to replace it free all the time cause it would get too costly. It's not like I was rough with it or dropped it or anything.

If you like reading a lot of books, it's great since it has an amazingly long battery life. Plus it's easier on the eyes. Even though I say this, I personally use an iPad, but I use it for comics and manga too, where having color and ability to zoom in and out are more important. My gf reads a lot of books, so she uses her Kindle all the time.

I think a Kindle or some form of e-book reader, be it a tablet, iPhone, Andriod, etc, is important when you teach overseas. It's so much cheaper and convenient to get books from Amazon's website, plus you don't have to carry around hundreds of pounds of books with you.

I know the Kindle is more widely publicized, but I personally think the nook is better.

I actually bought myself a Nook Color for Christmas, well not really. I had all my friends and family give me B&N and Visa gift cards for my birthday (Nov) and Christmas, and then traded out gift cards to other stores for cash. When all was said and done it only cost me $7.

I have great family & friends.

Then I purchased the two year service plan for $50.

If more English teachers start using e-readers will there be a decrease in the stereotypical backpacks being toted around? One can only hope.
