I definitely get that. Part of it is that I am ordinarily very low key wearing my hair up and no make-up, so when I dress up a bit, they will ask me if I have a date or something. I should probably dress a little nicer every day, but in winter I choose to be warm over being fashionable and it's been a long one.

Haha. Interesting to hear from a girl's perspective. I think you take it a little too seriously. Maybe I've stopped noticing it since I've been here too long.

OP was wrong to assume it's just females who get this scruitiny.

And it's not just teachers, if i wear a different watch the boys in the class will without fail check it out and comment on the brand.

There thumbs up is the most important endorsement clothes can get Smile

What brands are you wearing? Western or Korean? Do you find it hard to find good quality clothes at fair prices here that are unique? I do!

I wish I got more compliments on my clothes. Course, I've only bought one sweater and one top in the past 6 months. Sad(

We, along with other Western countries, are just big countries full of gigantic p******.

Just deal with it, Jesus. Wah, someone commented to my face about my appearance and clothes. I feel so violated. Oh shutup, grow a pair already.

I'd rather deal with comments about my clothes rather than fake ass people giving me small talk everyday like:

"Oh my god, really? Wow, you totally have to meet this guy, he's so cool, he's like the best person ever. Cool! I LOVELOVELOVE "How I Met Your Mother," too! That's fantastic! Wow! So Chad and Madison are coming over later for drinks so you should totally come, too. Mason, Logan and Parker can't make it tonight, because they're going to happy hour at this totally cool new bar."

How do people live in another country and not grow a thicker skin? It's really incredible.

U MAD?. And something about the tone of this post comes across subtly homophobic.

Also "The reason why America is going down the tube and that terrorists are winning the war on terror is because of posts like these." Comedy gold. I can only assume then that we would be better off if everyone got MMA training from birth, drank beer instead of water, monster truck rallies were the national sport, and staring another male in the eye was considered an act of aggression?

good heavens, the vitriol on this board is often chilling

i just am a very sensitive person-- just being stared at can make me cry sometimes-- & this issue is something that at times truly tests my personal limits-- which, the last time i checked, all of us humans have. i never said i felt 'violated' nor that it was a 'problem.' it's just a pet peeve and i wanted to hear others' insights about it. frankly i find it fascinating in kind of a painful way, because if i remember correctly, anthropologically speaking, such obsessive materialism usually foretells a period of significant decline. i also find it baffling because i grew up in & was educated in places that were extremely free-thinking & encouraging of diverse or even radical lifestyle choices.... so a lingering aspect of culture shock that i experience almost anywhere i travel is just how blindly humans are conditioned to identify their sense of self with objects, job titles etc.

anyway i didn't mean it as an indirect brag either-- i don't have fancy clothes. though i do take care to look as nice as possible every day.

yes, i agree about the lack of quality clothes here for reasonable prices. but those of us from the US are spoiled in this sense-- there's no better place to shop in all the world.

oh and i didn't mean that they compliment me-- just always noticing and commenting. which is why it makes me think of those reality shows where people's looks/clothing are discussed by committees of judges. that's exactly what they remind me of.... and also-- i like these women!! they are quite sweet and are very generous with me in many ways. it's just that sometimes i wish i had a teacher's uniform assigned to me that i could wear every day to take the consistent attention off of my appearance--

don't wanna sound like a jerk but maybe teaching in a foreign country where you stick out like a sore thumb isn't the best career choice.
