The link above connects you to a bunch of expat blogs in the ROK. Why don't you pick one. Maybe start reading. Don't like it for whatever reason, pick another. Read to your heart's content.
Alternatively, and this has already been said, you can Google much of what you're asking. For example type this into your browser: "site:http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea pay" or "site:http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea E-2 visa".
It's actually much faster to search for yourself instead of waiting a few hours for someone to come along and take you seriously, which gets hard to do if you have about a dozen threads going. |

In no particular order:
I had an advanced degree that I wasn't using.
I was tired of being poor.
I wanted a challenge.
I thought that I would like teaching.
As it turned out, I do like teaching and how it brings new challenges every day, and it's nice not to be so poor. My advanced degree now means that my paycheck is a tiny bit larger than it would be otherwise, so in a way I'm using it. |

The most popular destinations are
Japan, China, Thailand, The Philippines, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. They are all reachable in a less than 5 hour flight and the time of year depends on what kind of weather you like. South East Asian countries are fairly hot all year round, though they have rainy seasons. People also go further afield to Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, India etc..and some travel to less obvious places like Burma or Mongolia. If you're not a US citizen you can even visit North Korea. You can get 4 or 5 months off if you get a job at certain Korean universities but the average hagwan (private institute) gives you two weeks total. You get double that at Public schools. |
