After speaking with some friends it seems we all know public school teachers who didn't get this back when they left (all in SMOE but poll is open to everyone). Just wondering exactly how common this is?

Well you have to segment the people who didn't get back into different categories:

1) People who destroyed their apartments
2) People who ran
3) People who gave owner every reason not to give it back
4) People who genuinely got screwed.

Just be glad you don't have 15 - 30million KRW tied up in a security deposit.

It's 900,000 won out in Gyeongi-do. I got all of mine back but it took almost a month because the principal was in the hospital for cancer, or so they said.

two of my friends did not get their deposits back (they apparently even paid on top of that when leaving).

NOTE: Not voting in the poll as it wasn't me and I have yet to leave this building.

I have personally known several hundred (dare I say as many as 1000 over the last 7 years) in GEPIK (myself included) who ALL got their deposits back (less any outstanding utility bills).

500,000 won security deposit? Everyone I know has received it minus the utilities.
