I just accepted my first teaching job in South Korea at St Louis Academy in Daegu. I'm a little nervous after all of the horror stories about teaching in Korea that I've read online. (I read these stories AFTER accepting the job.) Does anyone know anything about this school? Is it a bad or good place to work? I would appreciate any information anyone could provide. Thanks.

Alternatively, it seems to be known on their website as Saint Louis International English School.

Hey, I also accepted a position with the St. Louis School in Deagu (about two weeks ago). Before I signed the contract I talked to two foreign teachers (via email) from the school and they had nothing but good things to say about the school, director, staff, and overall experience. It's always best to get the emails of foreign staff so you can ask them questions before signing the contract. I was offered positions at few other schools in Korea, but the foreign staff at St. Louis seemed to be the happiest and I sensed more of welcoming vibe from staff at St. Louis.

If you'd like, feel free to email me, and I'll forward you the emails I received from the foreign staff. One of them even sent me a link to her blog which had a video of the apartments we'll be living in.

btw, when do you start?

I'm glad to hear it! I've been a little worried, although everyone I've been in contact with has been very nice. I start in July. When do you start? Are you already in Korea? I'll pm you and give you my email so you can forward me the emails.

Not sure if it changed its status.

Probably way too late, but in Fall of 2004, we used to call this school wake-up-and-get-fired. Good news is that was YEARS ago.

Some of these teachers are "asked" to recruit their replacements before they leave. I had the same experience at a hogwan only to discover that the teacher was the head foreign teacher and was moving on due to job related issues.

But who knows, maybe it is a great place. You won't know until you go. Stay vigilant.
