I have just been offered a position (my first) at the Avalon school in Mokdong and I was wondering if anyone had any experience of them? Is 2.1 million won pretty standard for the area?

2.1 is standard for any Avalon school in your first year with no experience. You will get your pension, severance, and pay on time. Up to you if you want to live in Mokdong... seems like a decent location in Seoul, somewhat close to Hongdae. The branch is only a couple years old and is pretty nice.

2.1 is standard if you are from England,Scotland,Australia, South Africa or Ireland. 2.2 is standard if you are American or Canadian. They pay you more if you have an 'American' accent.

just be warned that Avalon academies generally treat their employees like shit. I am sitting in one right now, and both my co-teachers and other people I know who have worked in Avalons in other cities would agree.

I don't know anything specific about working at that school, but I walk past it a few times a week. If you are ok working with a huge school, then this would be a good place to start. You will be paid paid on time and get your proper benefits, but have no personal connection with anybody you are working with/for.

My friend works there. It's a decent school. The director lived in the States for a few years and is pretty understanding to the teachers.

No idea about the Avalon in Mokdong, but Mokdong is a pretty nice area. Close by subway to many of the popular areas in Seoul, lots of English teachers living there, fairly rich area.
