I'm mailing my background check tomorrow. I've inserted the $18 cashier's check, fingerprint card and application form into a manilla envelope. Hopefully that's all I need, right?
Also, once I get my background check back and have my diploma in hand, I've seen people saying they both have to be apostilled, while others say it has to be notarized. Which is it? I thought it was just apostilled, but if a notarization is all one needs, I can go to the local Kinko's and have it done a lot sooner than the week or so it would take for the Secretary of State to get it back to me. That said, should I get both? Or would the apostille, if required, make the notary public redundant??
I also live about 10 hours away from the nearest Korean embassy. I would pretty much go broke trying to fly or drive there. What's the best option for me? Is there a way to do a phone interview, or do I really have to find a way to get there? |

You need the notarization to get an apostille on the copy of your degree.
Depending on where you live (50 states and 50 sets of rules) you may or may not need to have the CBC notarized.
The consulate MAY waive the interview or MAY do it via the internet but they MAY NOT. You better plan on a way to get there to do the interview and visa application.
