Is this type of insurance required? I'm at a public school and this is the first month it's been taken out of my pay. In over two years here it's never been taken out, and the HR lady said I can't work unless I pay into it.
Does anyone have any info about this? Please share TIA |

Is this in addition to your National Health Insurance?
How much is it? |

Have a new HR lady?
If you mean the unemployment insurance you are exempt.
If you mean the workers comp (for accidents) they are required to pay it; NOT YOU.
Tell them you can't work then and sit at your desk.

It is correct that the employer has to pay for the workers' compensation insurance. You should not pay.
However, the amount is small. You should do your job normally and respectfully and just take a very calm approach to having this incorrect deduction stopped and refunded. It's a very insignificant amount, so your reaction needs to be measured accordingly. |

Thanks for the info everyone. The amount was 37,800W and I guess I'll have another talk with her tomorrow. She's not a new HR person, so this is all rather strange.
I do have a good relationship with my school, so I won't be freaking out and when I pointed this out to her on Friday we were both nice to each other. I know 38,000W is not a lot of money, but this is my last 10 months here and I'm in super save mode.
Thanks again! |
