The US State Dept. has a teaching fellowship program (administered by Georgetown University) offering 10 month teaching fellowship positions in (mostly) developing countries. It pays about $3,000 per month, plus housing. Anybody done one of these? If so, can you recommend it? |

My cousin did that last year. She was sent to Togo and had a hard time adjusting at first. She had taught abroad in various countries before, but she was placed in an area where she rarely saw another foreigner.
Eventually she settled in, made friends with locals, broke into the expat community, and met a marine who she is now engaged to.
She mentions missing it ocassionally, but I don't think she would have stayed on another year. |

Consider if you'd like to live in developing countries. Having spent nearly 8 years in them, I woulnd't want to go back. though it does look good on your CV I suppose. Kind of like the peace Corps, but with better pay. |
