|

It's been about 4 weeks (March 4) since my recruiter said they sent my documents to my school - I still haven't got my Visa Issuance number yet.
They said i was suppose to get it last Monday - but heard nothing from them. I was told on Wednesday I would be getting it within a week.
Does it usually take this long? Im stuck in limbo right now. My recruiter is GnB Gate - they haven't really been proactive in keeping me up to date and what's happening.
Seems like they keep pushing the date back every time I ask them. |

Yikes. Something smells wrong. It doesn't take 4 weeks.
I think you are getting the run around. |

Since the RECRUITER sent the documents to the SCHOOL.
Easy answer, your school hasn't turned them in. I ran into that problem. The woman who was responsible for turning in my papers didn't do it on time.
This is the high season for immigration, so it usually takes the full 2 weeks at this point. If your school didn't turn it in on time, then yeah, you wouldn't have it in the time you thought. Tell the recruiter that they should find out where it is. Put the pressure on them. Remember, if you don't take the job, the recruiter doesn't get paid. |

i was thinking the recruiter maybe pulled a fast one and hired another teacher for this position -and maybe waiting until I give up and emailing them. I'll give them until the end of the week. |

I got my visa number this month in 10 days.
The answer is simple: the school never turned the papers into immigration. You're not in Korea, so this 99% means they are trying to hire teachers from WITHIN Korea while holding onto your documents as a "reserve" in case their primary candidates don't come through.
It happened to me, and I ended up having to find another job.
Solution: Get your documents back, and go with another recruiter. You RECRUITER should have kept tabs on the school since 2 weeks is too long, YOU shouldn't be having to do it. That's their job, not yours. Be polite, get the documents and send them to a friend in Korea if you have one, then find a NEW recruiter and tell them your documents are already in Korea which makes you a much better candidate. Do NOT work with that recruiter anymore once your documents are in a safe place. |

4-10 working days for issuance of a visa confirmation number (even at peak times).
If it has taken longer than that then your paperwork is sitting on someone's desk and NOT made it to Kimmi.
Who blew it (recruiter or school) is hard to say at this point.
It wouldn't be the first time a recruiter has taken documents from a newbie without a job in hand to ensure that they didn't go to someone else while the recruiter tried to sell the "teacher" to some hagwan.
(the old bait and switch).

I'm going to email then 1 more time - I was really excited about going to Korea - now im just angry. That excitement of searching for jobs and getting interviews and hired has faded long ago.
I can't express it here - but the feeling really blows. |

Here's the reply I got finally
"Hello again.
Here is bad news and good news.
The public school keep trying to get fund but failed to get fund from government in this year, so they couldn't hire foreign teacher anymore.
So unfortunately they will send back your package to us.
I'm very very sorry about that."
And they offered a position at their GnB branch |

I wonder which part they consider the "good news", that they are actually going to be kind enough to send back your docs, or that they offered a position at Gnb? I think I would drop that recruiter either way.
Sorry about the hassle OP. My first time out back in September 2007 I accepted a position through an Australian recruiter, but then did not hear from him for close to a week, despite repeated emails and phone calls. I just wanted to know what the process was, because it was all new to me. So I accepted another position instead. When the Aussie guy finally got back to me and I told him I had decided to go elsewhere, he got pretty snippy with me. When I asked him why he never answered me, he actually had the gall to say, "I told you you had the job, I am not here to hold your hand".

It's the old "bait and switch" deal. The GNB branch is probably offering a much higher finder's fee to the recruiter. They are trying to play you. |

Your recruiter (GnB Gate) and GnB share the same corporate lineage, which explains their latest offer to you.
Like any recruiting agency, they're placing their own interests over those of their client (you). In this instance, they're trying to re-direct you towards filling a teaching vacancy in one of their branches. How convenient.
If you have your mind set on a public school position, I would recommend getting your documents back from GnB Gate ASAP, and finding another recruiter in the interim.
Good luck. |
