you ever wonder where you'd be if you chose a different path at the proverbial fork in the road?
a few years ago when i was a newbie looking for esl jobs, a dude from tunisia emailed me and offered me a job to be his family's private tutor. apparently he was wealthy and offered me a place in his house.
that probably would've been an interesting journey.
any weird opportunities come your way that you didn't take? |

Near the end of university I went on a date with an accounting major who was offered a job to be the Inuit town clerk up in Inuvik on the Arctic Ocean and she was apprehensive about going up there alone and was talking about how it would be nice to get married and have a kid, how her job was very good paying to support a family, and how she was wanted to have a second date with me. THAT would have been interesting, a huge left turn off the path I was on. |

Oh, I've had a few forks. Many. One of the most memorable? I was working at my job(in a casino) and was offered a part in a movie. The kind of movies that most guys watch daily. |

Are you serious about the email from the Tunisian guy? |

You are joking about that, right? If not, rest assured that you took the proper route at that fork. |

Wow, I got an email too! I just couldn't come up with the 10,000 dollars the guy wanted wired to his bank account. |

My two best friends from high school went into business together while I went my separate way, despite offers from them to find something for me to do with. They're both now rolling in money and married with children. While I don't particularly envy their lifestyle, I could do with some of their money. |

I've had plenty of past job offers through my e-mail to work in Nigeria for a Swedish family as a tutor....for crazy money too |

Same here. Yet oddly I've never heard of someone actually posted in one of these lucrative private family tutor positions. |

One of the oldest scams around. If you emailed him back, he would of eventually asked YOU to send HIM money so he could get you set up in Tunisia. I think most ESL'ers have gotten that email at least once or twice.
Remember, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. |

When I was stationed here for the army, I was tapped by flight warrant recruiting. I was interested, but not enough to follow through.
Looking back...that could have made my life completely different if I had decided to go that route. |

I've never seen a fork in the road but did once run across a spoon on the sidewalk. Being no fool, I picked it up, took it home, cleaned it up and used it for years. As far as I know, no change happened in my life.
Moral: Close doesn't cut it--hold out for those forks. |

I onced happened on a situation where I had to choose between two paths. One could've taken me to a more interesting climate, but I ended up in an environment with many wise people and gifted comedians that left me overwhelmed and wanting to have such incredible skills. I'll never know what the other way could've brought me, but alas, here I am still searching. |

Suckers...
I'm living it up here in Tunisia with the Swedish family. Life's great. They even brought along their pretty Swedish nanny, and she's single . This house is huge; I got my own apartment in this place.
They promptly paid me back the $5,000 I had wired them; I got the cash the same day I landed. The salary is awesome; $4,000 a month, as promised. And yes, I get to use the family's personal driver.
Seriously guys, you should put some careful thought into that next e-mail about working in Nigeria. |
