I'm interviewing with YES and ILS for positions in Jeongja (YES) and Ori (ILS). Wondering if anyone has any information on these schools. I couldn't find any information about them online.

Talk to current and past employees. Ask whether or not they got paid on time every time, whether or not the proper deductions were taken out (health, etc...), and whether or not they were asked/forced to work additional unpaid hours either on-site or elsewhere.

Also ask about the housing condition and associated costs to the teacher (electric, management fees, gas....).

Go staight to the source. There are way too many hakwons in Korea and way too few people on the board to hope to get any specific info on one or two small places in out-of-the-way areas.

I know what questions to ask. That's why I'm posting here, obviously.

I don't have access to current/foreign teachers yet and I don't want to waste my time interviewing for a position I won't take.

No need to be snippy. The poster was trying to be helpful. Rolling Eyes

Why dont you have access to current/foreign teachers? If interviewing with the school is a way to get access to more information, then maybe its not such a "waste of time".

Yeah, the OP clearly stated, "I'm interviewing with YES and ILS for positions in Jeongja (YES) and Ori (ILS)." If you are interviewing, one thing you ask is to speak with current and past teachers.

At any rate, good luck with the job prospects. Cheers, P.R.

Wow -- you treat folks helping you this way? In that case, my advice to you is to apply to Wonderland -- I think their management style and treatment of teachers would be a good fit with your personality and attitude -- match made in heaven!

Cheers!

Eh, cut him a break. Maybe he was drunk on soju when writing his response. Maybe he was sexually molested as an adult by a bikini model, and that has scarred him for the past 2 weeks, you never know. Or maybe he's French.

Unfortunately, I don't have any info about those schools, but I would insist on speaking to current teachers, and maybe even the one who's job you're taking. If they don't let you, or they're concerned about that, red flag. Barring that, put a post on the forums whose title is something to the effect of "Want info for YES in Jeongja ILS in Ori." Barring that, flip a coin, take a shot, and start driving.

(I harbor no ill will towards French. My French maid is French, for crying out loud.)

I'll tell you this much: if you take the Ori job, you probably won't be living in Bundang. They'll probably have you living in Yongin - in Easy View Apartments, more specfically. When I lived there, a Korean told me that Easy View are some of the cheapest apartments in the area. It sucked there.

I used to live in Ori, I forget the names of the apartments but they were definitely a lower quality, though still more than adequate for me. I had lived in a nearly new, smaller apartment for about 7 months and then had to move, and I think I'd prefer the apartments in Ori, though it is really about your personal preferences, not mine.
