Dear mods: I chose to put this in General Discussion because well, I think more noobies post in the Job Forums and I would like replies from seasoned teachers. I assume a lot of them, such as myself, have all but stopped reading the Job Forums.
There seem to be a crapload of jobs avaliable lately. Now the evidence I cite for this is Craigslist (where there have steadily been 100+ postings a day recently and 200+ is not uncommon, whereas 50+ just a few monts ago was unheard of) and, well, could be due to 2 things:
1. There are actually a lot more avaliable positions (why? N.K., Japan, stiffer entry requirements, improving western economy, etc.)
2. The popularity of Craigslist is on the rise.
3. other?
I check Craigslist almost every day, usually 2-3 times. Thoughts? |

Many of them are probably the same position but rehashed over and over again. Most of the time a vet wouldn't go near them. The working hours, pay or something is just plain bad. |

more job listing doesn't necessarily mean more jobs. I just think recruiters are more desperate. |

What is the best place to find the "good jobs"? Here on Dave's? |

Korean Job Board here on Dave's. But you have to do a "search" and then choose "university" for example, if you're looking for a university job. But make sure you search for that under "Messages posted by" so that most of the fakes posted by hagwons are filtered-out.
That's what I do, anyway. |

There kind of is an abundance, but I also think that most of the jobs are from recruiters. Also, keep in mind, that compared to many countries in the world that are suffering from depressions, Korea is a pretty decent place to work. |

I always did find it odd whenever people said that there weren't a lot of jobs out there. I remember people saying that in early 2009 when I was contemplating a return to Korea. For example, when I was back home, I was applying for jobs on a daily basis and in a two week period had a grand total of 1 interview. My first day of applying for a job in Korea and I had 3 contracts of schools that really, really wanted me. It was a pretty easy decision to make. Still, there are always tons and tons of jobs in Korea, even through the peak of the recession for the rest of the world. |

I think it's just the time of year. Public schools are desparate to fill vacancies. Not sure what the deal is with hagwons, though.
I was on the job hunt myself up until very recently. I was getting ten to fifteen calls a day from recruiters. I could have done twenty interviews in one week if I wanted to.
I basically bit off about ten, researched them all, interviewed at three based on my research and then signed onto one.
I just attributed this to the fact that I am in country. Before, I'd always apply from outside of country or I'd just fall into a vacancy that a friend left.
Is it like this for newbies overseas, too? If so, what changed?
EDIT: On a side note, there is a hell of a lot of rehashing going on as someone else pointed out. Three or four recruiters offered me the exact same position and I've been seeing a lot of the same ads popping up over and over again. |

I think it has to do with the E2 changes... for the most part.
Not only have I seen more jobs posted, but the salary seems to be going up. |

My recruiter is currently trying to fill at least ten positions ASAP and he said he can't find anyone. He blames it on the E2 changes mostly but now says the radiation and North Korea are also becoming bigger issues. Well North Korea has always been a thorn in the recruiter's side but the radiation has definitely not added to the "charm" of coming here. |

I agree 100%
They are desperate and they are just more postings of the same jobs every month. |
