|
|
Hi All!
In one of my elementary school classes we are reading Rapunzel and I'd really like to show the movie Tangled. I have downloaded the movie and the subtitles in .smi format. I am using a Mac OSX and VLC player, and can't seem to figure out how to play them together. I also would like to burn the movie onto a disc.
I'm not too great with computers and I have never used subtitles before, so if anyone knows how to solve my problem and could give me some directions it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

You also need to make sure VLC's preferences are set to read Hangeul fonts.
By default, "Apple Gothic" and a few others will substitute well.
Google "VLC mac and korean font" for more details. I can't remember. |

If that doesn't work, google for a different player. I had this problem a couple years ago. Seems like certain Korean subtitle fonts are really hard to get working on OSX. Not a fault of the OS, I'm sure, but rather a fault of the Korean computers being geared completely towards Microsoft products. (ie. Many Korean websites STILL only work with IE.) |

I use MplayerOSX, set to a Korean encoding with a Korean font. It's a lot easier to read than VLC IMHO. |

Thanks for all the replies!
Unfortunately GOM player doesn't work for a Mac, I had already looked into that before I posted here.
I was able to get to work with VLC by changing the font, so thanks!
Does anyone know how to burn an avi and smi file together on a DVD? |

You will first have to combine the files by re-encoding the video file to include the sub (creating a "hard-sub"). Then, if you want to play it on any DVD player, and not just a computer, you will have to change the format to a DVD compatible format. There are probably programs that can combine these steps, but I haven't tried to do this for a long time so I don't know what they would be called. I think you can use Handbrake to re-encode your file with the sub, though. |

Likewise it's been a while since I was burning DVDs, but I think Toast will help with that in OS X. |
