i don't think the prejudice is toward skin color but the overall look of... ugliness- of which dark complexion is a usual ingredient  |

| Dark skin suggests country folk with little money who have to work fields all day. People want to be white skinned. Back home, the browner the better. |

| i don't think Koreans' would say anything to Kim, as Armenian skin is naturally dark. |

Nice use of the quote. Didn't contain the word "racism" at all. I get that it was in the original topic, but I think we can all assume that the OP was talking about prejudice. It may be that more helpful insights and fewer comments regarding semantics might be useful. |

It comes' from SE Asian skin..Who is Yuri?

I think its like black Americans in the South. That darker skin looks like suntanned skin from working in the fields, rather than a fairer complexion from inside workers or rich elites or what have you.
anyway, its quite common in Asian countires that they hate each other for a number of reasons. Korea is just so competitive, theyll find ANYTHING to make themselves look better. Korea isnt that bad when compared to India, though, but thats a nother story. |

I've seen some very dark koreans and it ain't "from the sun".
In the black community it used to be a big issue, t wouldn't susprise me if it occured here. |

Its totally different perception in Korea/Asia.
Just like in many western countries a woman with a tan is considered sexy and pastypale is not that desirable.
Its the opposite here...
Nowadays its related to beauty and the Korean concept of beauty.
But back in the day, across Asia from Japan to Philippines. Those with a tan were considered to be part of a working class, even social status of "untouchables" and therefore shunned. |
