Hey all,
I guess this is for pkang, but I can't PM because of low posts. Actually it's for anyone who knows.
I'm interesting in pointing a US client at the Korean servers so I can play on the Korean servers, reading quest and flavor text in English. I read that this was formerly possible, but with the release of Cataclysm I haven't been able to get it to work. Anyone got the magic for it?

I'm looking for the same.
I'm guessing since the Korean servers aren't live, when you login the Korean servers detect a version mismatch with the US client, therefore it doesn't let you login.
I'm thinking once the Korean Cataclysm goes live, it may work.
I wonder if someone can relocalize Cataclysm like they did with Starcraft 2. |

US Client is using Cataclysm Content.
Korean Servers has Cataclysm still in Beta.
So, when US Cataclysm Client contacts Korean servers, the Korean server says, "Uh Oh! Your version is different than ours. Login FAIL!".
Right now, the only hope is that CAtaclysm goes live on all servers in Korea, and you can do the realmlist.wtf edit to login. If that doesn't work then you'd better learn Korean, until someone out there can figure out how to "relocalize" the US client to work on Korean servers.
Seeing as how there aren't too many programming hotshots who want to play a US Client on a Korean server, I don't see it happening soon... |

I'm not trolling this is a genuine question.
If you can't read or type in Korean, why would you want to play on Korean servers anyway? Aside from the lower latency. Wouldn't it just be the same as a single player game? Admittedly, I've considered doing this myself, but after some thought I really can't see getting any enjoyment at end game.
Unless you have a bunch of Korean friends who play and speak English..
- You can't communicate with your party, and you'll likely get booted when the party leader realizes you can't even say hello
- You can't communicate with your guild, who would invite you anyway?
- You can't understand instructions so raiding is out..
Basically you can just pug pvp battlegrounds. |

I played on US servers since the launch of vanilla but most of my IRL friends quit halfway through burning crusade, so i stopped as well. I started playing LK on US servers back when everyone was running naxx (when I first moved to Korea), but the game just wasn't fun without IRL friends so i quit again.
A year ago or so I found out that some of my Korean friends that speak some English played so I joined a Korean server. Playing wasn't hard since I knew what I was doing and learned what I had to do in new raids (Ulduar/ICC) by watching a few tankspot videos.
After I found out that I could use an English client everything got a bit easier. Now that Cataclysm is out though, I've found that I'm completely lost since, well, nothing is where it used to be. After 10 minutes of hopelessly wandering around the new Orgrimmar, I gave up. 
To address some of your other questions though...
- I can speak/read enough Korean to get by in groups, but questing feels horrible since I can't take in any of the lore.
- I rarely get kicked from groups and when I do, it's usually because they think I'm a Chinese gold farmer. After I explain my situation in my broken Korean (미국인인데, 한국에 살고있어요 ), I've found that most people are pretty nice
Overall I like the people that play on Korean servers, which probably has a lot to do with the age demographic. Most of the people I've met are in the mid 20's ~ mid 30's. We've even gone out for drinks together

| It kind of answers it I guess.. At least you make an effort to type some stuff in Korean. I just don't see any advantage at all over playing on an US Oceanic server. (aside from the latency) |

My reasons are the same as Jefferyp. My Korean is good enough for normal conversation.
However, it is a complete pain in the butt to try and remember all the vocabulary related to the game. When I am using a Korean client, and I go through a Raid, by the time I translate an item, its stats, and whether or not it will be good for me, the bidding is over and I missed my chance. Also, with all of the changes in Cataclysm, I'd much rather use an English client to try out new skills and talents.
I play as a Priest. One of the main reasons I rolled Priest on a Korean server is no one bothers you as long as you heal. Seems pretty simple. I can get by 90% of raids not saying/typing a single thing. Just heal and make sure poeple don't die.
Also, I have coworkers that play WoW, and I enjoy playing with them, but I don't want to bother their playing experience by whispering them every 5 seconds to ask them what something means. |

get them on Vent and be like "oh thats nice for priest. they will either agree or say its not |

I recently found a Korean guild on U.S. servers that I have been playing with. Most live in North America (see: Kyopos), but there are some of us that live in Korea and other places as well. Although I don't think there is any official rule, guild chat is usually 100% Korean.
If you are interested send me a pm and I can point you in the right direction.
Edit: I get around 300 ms on a west coast server.

What kind of latency are you guys getting?
Last time I tried, I was getting 500+ms playing on a US west coast server. Having played with 30-60ms on a regular basis, that was quite a noticable difference, especially for high-end raiding, where reacting half-second slower was the difference between a wipe and a kill.
Man, I sure hope I find some good friends nearby before I jump back on the WoW bandwagon.  |

Pkang,
I was wondering if the realmlist edit still works with Cataclysm. I want to play with the US client on Korean servers again but like a dope, I let my US client update to 4.06. When I change the realmlist file to access the Korean servers it says it won't validate the version. Is this because the Korean servers haven't been updated to 4.06 yet? WHen they do will it work? Did blizzard figure out people were doing this and break it? |
