Well not really. He sucks. I sometimes even want to punch him on the nose. But I teach middle school girls, and the focus of my morning special class is pop culture. Fashion, music, hair styles, describing a persons appearance, clothing etc. I have searched high and low for suitable Western pop videos on youtube with simple enough (and safe) lyrics. Virtually all have content that isnt appropriate for adolescent girls. Even Taylor Swift, however wholesome her image, has make out scenes in her videos. So far the only artist I can find that is safe is Justin Beiber. Confused

Once I overcome my urge to punch him, I realize that hes a cute enough kid. And his videos are exemplary in the sense that they are multicultural and inclusive. My kids, whom I otherwise adore, really need to see that. They still laugh hysterically when Ludicrus appears in the video. But if I can find enough inclusive videos maybe their attitudes will slowly change. So far Bieber is what Im running with. And the girls adore him. They actually scream when he appears on the screen. (The lesson Im getting from this is that there most likely is no God.)

One other student recommended You Lift me Up by Westlife. Not my cup of tea, but the girls loved it and its also culturally inclusive. And not everyone in the video is beautiful, so its inclusive of the girls in the class who are less than beautiful. A nice video. Anyway, does anyone know of any other safe videos that work in a classroom full of pre-teen girls. It cant be that Bieber kid every day, it just cant.

Sorry for the long post.

Beiber peace.

I'm desperately trying to find a reason to show my students this video:

So far, I can't think of anything other than my own personal amusement.

There's no real heart throb factor but my middle schools students are usually enthralled by OkGo videos. Both versions of This Too Shall pass are pretty neat (in general my students are unaware of both Rube Goldberg machines and marching bands). There's one with dogs and a bunch of stop motion ones and the famous treadmill video. All good, wholesome entertainment.

I hope more people add to this thread. I'd really like to show more interesting music videos..

MacLean, I'm curious:
Did the girls in your class go crazy over him, too?

Sugarbabes--ugly

Or you could really torture yourself with videos from Glee or High School Musical.

That sugarbabes song is good. I'd never heart it before. It's catchy, but I think it would work better with high school or uni students. I teach middle school girls and I think its a bit too mature for them. Thanks for posting though. I enjoyed the song.

Bieber fever is a big thing right now. I say use him while he's still fairly tame (you know it won't last).

I teach adults here in the U.S. ages 18-40ish... from a smattering of different countries. Heaps of them are into Justin Bieber. I'm a bit baffled by it quite honestly.

But the kid has some serious drum skills...

I agree, it was very funny. But let's get back on topic. We were discussing suitable videos for students. I found this Taylor Swift video, which I think is very good for middle school girls. It has no questionable content, and the English is even quite simple. Good video for middle school students. As she's quite pretty, middle school boys might like it too.
