Anyone have any interesting suggestions for a long weekend trip somewhere in Korea. I've been to Jeju, Yeosu, Seoul, and Busan many times. So I'm interested in trying something new.
I hear those bamboo forests and tea farm are nice. Any other ideas? |

If your Korean is decent, ok, or you can at least read. I'd recommend these places. If it's not, you should really bring someone with you. Not too many foreigner help places around and the dialect is very sharp, not jeju sharp but enough to muddy the water
1. Try Tongyeong, its a small harbor city / town on the southern coast. Not sure how to define small, it'll take about 4-5 hours to walk from one side to the next. There's a walkway tunnel under the harbor. Surrounded by beautiful islands, each island is a 1 day trip, morning ferry and leave by night unless you want to camp.
When your done with Tongyeoung. You can take another ferry or bus to Nami Island. Gorgeous place, can't wait till I go back.
If you get bored while in Tongyeong (Mostly hiking stuff). You can always take a ferry to busan
2. Gyeongju isn't too bad either if your into culture stuff. But you definitely need a car or tour bus to get around. Tasty Red Bean cakes. The giant mountain (Forget the name) is really pretty, lots of ancient sculptures.
3. Jeonju is alright too. Anything more than a weekend trip is overkill. Really good bibimbap though.
If I remember anymore places off the beaten track, I'll let you know |

The green tea fields are nice and the region has been set up well for tourists. There's a salt water sauna if you're into that.
I haven't visited the bamboo forest yet, but am planning to go. People are raving about it.
The rail biking in Kangwon-do would be good for your wife and there is also some easy hiking in the area. The pensions in the area are nice. Make sure to eat dinner fairly early because there are only a couple of restaurants and they run out of food around 8. |

+1 to all.
Loved Seoraksan, if you arrive early you could ride the cable car to somewhat of a top. |

It's a no longer used railway line and they've fabricated carts that you pedal along it. The views are quite nice and it's not hard to pedal since a lot of it is downhill. You take a train back to the starting point.
It's really popular. When I was there, people were getting up at 5 a.m. to go stand in line to buy tickets. |
