UPDATE: My old school still refuses to pay my money. The government guy handling my case asked me if I wanted to go to court. I said yes. I have a court date set for Monday at 4pm. I really hope there will be a capable English translator there. I honestly never thought it would go this far but...it is what it is. I'm all in now. Update to come next week. Cheers.

UPDATE: So I didn't go to court today (my co-teacher goofed that up). I had a meeting at the government office with a manager. He told me that "technically" they can take my 300k to find a new apartment for my replacement. It falls under the security deposit (which can basically be anything the school wishes it to be). This is how it worked.

The school pays me. I then transfer the money to their account. Since they were not withholding my salary the labor laws don't affect them. If the school took the money directly out of my salary and then didn't refund it they could help. They told me I can either go to the police or hire an attorney and sue them. ugh.

I'm not going to do any of that. The government guys told me if it was alot of money then sue. But we are only talking 300k. Yeah, 300k of my freakin' money...not his. Anyway it was my call. I took the 600k and just said forget the rest.

Tip for teachers. If you have to pay a deposit have it taken directly out of your salary. Don't get paid and then transfer the money to your school. That is the loophole the schools dance through. Cheers.

If a school helps me get a better apartment, I'm not going to screw them on the apartment later, sorry.

No, I'm certainly not either. However, this is not what happened in the OP's case.

Are you the stupid Korean who runs around trolling after NETs? Sure are. Why don't you do everybody a favour and put your keyboard hand to better use.

Ah, I read this wrong. At first he said they wanted 300K for breaking the lease, then demanded extra.

But then it seems he started balking at even paying the 300K.

I suppose it all worked out in the end.
