You need to stand your ground on this one. Next time it'll be something else and so on...
Ask the owner, "would you live here?" Well then, why should I!!!
No work until I have a better place to live. If you have money to fix up the school that is brand new, you have money to provide me with a decent place to live, not a sh!thole. Sharing the bathroom and kitchen with the school! Man! That's one cheap Charlie!! You're in for a rough year! And it just started! |

I can't be certain about this, not having seen your contract, but I think the fact that he hasn't provided you with suitable housing is enough to void your contract.
Contact EFL-law and read through the info on their web page.
I like the idea of giving him 30 days to find something, except where are you supposed to live until then?
I hope this helps |

Hold the line. Just say "whoops, sorry, isn't going to happen". Then suggest that the two of you go looking for an officetel. If things aren't immediately resolved, simply hit the road down to Immigration and state that your new employer lied to you about housing and failed to provide an apartment or an officetel, but rather gave you a converted room in the school that has no facilities.
A condition of the visa sponsorship is that the employer must ensure you have a place to live (not that they pay for, but that's for another time). Since what you have been given doesn't really qualify, they will contact the director. If he doesn't immediately line you up proper housing, Immigration will release you from his sponsorship and you can line up another employer.
Though be very calm, patient and friendly with Immigration, and bring pictures of the room showing no facilities. |

| Except that now the Director will simply say oh look I DID provide proper housing! And will point to the latest sh*thole. Immigration might not be interested in the quality of the housing, as long as it resembles 'an apartment'. |
